"Hey Uncle Charlie, hows Vegas?" Kansas said as she sat on the front porch on the swing on her phone looking out over the sun set.

"Its great! Would you like to chat to your Aunt?" He asked her.

"Yeah, oh hey, did you know Bella is back?" Kansas asked him. There was a long pause. "Hello?"

"I'm still here hun. Bella is back home? Does she look good?" he asked her.

"I don't know. I haven't see her yet. Jacob said she looks the same. Uncle Charlie?" she asked him.

"Yeah," he said back still in shock that he heard his daughter was back in town.

"Do I have anything to worry about with her and her family being in town and like losing Jacob? He's acting really weird," she said.

"Kansas huney, just keep your head up and your heart open. I've told you that from day one. But Jacob makes his own decisions, so remember that and accept them," he said to her.

"OKay thank you. Just tell my Aunt to send a post card," she said. "Phones dying." They said their goodbyes and she hung up the phone. She sent another text to Jacob who hasn't responded all day which was unusal for him. She kept swinging and with in moments fell asleep stairing into the sunset.

"Um, Kansas?" a guy's voice said as he was waking her up. She looked around and it was dark out and she could see a figure but wasn't sure who it was so she swung out of protection mode and punched him in the jaw.

"Who are you?" she said in a hurry as she was trying to stand up off the swing.

"I met you earlier kinda, I'm a friend of Jacobs. Emmet," he said as he shinned his phone on his face. She relaxed a little.

"Oh. I'm totally sorry about the punch. What are you doing here? You should probably ice that. I'll get ya some ice," she said as she walked into her house. He stood outside feeling his jaw.

"I'm fine, I really don't, okay," he said as she shoved the ice onto his face. She sat on the swing again and he leaned against the banister. "Have you heard from Jacob?"

"Um, no, I think he said he had some stuff to do at Sams was last I knew. What are you doing here anyway?" she asked him. "I'm Kansas by the way," she said as she stuck her hand out to shake. He quickly shook her hand back.

"I wanted to come introduce myself to you since Jacob so rudely didn't," he said to her. He was still in awe of her beauty. "How old are you if you don't mind me asking."

"I'll be 17 in about two weeks," she said. "You?"

"Oh, um, I'll be like 25 this winter," he said trying to sound ligit.

"Cool. So you guys are all about Jacobs age," she said. "So this Nessie chick, is she going to be starting school here soon?" Kansas asked him.

"Yeah possibly," he said as he still stood there holding the ice to his face and talking to her. "So, how do you know Jacob?" he finally asked.

"Oh. Um, my Aunt is dating Charlie Swan, which is Bella's dad, and as you know, Charlie is good friends with Billie, and ...." she started to say.

"Jacob is Billys son," Emmett said as he followed it.

"So how old is Nessie?" she asked.

"Oh, around your age," he said hoping that he was right to say that.

"Cool. Well, maybe to make things better for Jacob, me and her can be friends and I can be friends with your family too." she said blunty. Emmett had this look of doubt in his face. "Or not. Maybe I'm just trying to hard, haha," she said with a giggle.

"No its not that, I'm sure you are a friendly person, its just my family is all sorts of fucked up, so I'm sure someone like you doesn't want to be wrapped up in that," he said.

"Fucked up family and friends is better than nothing, trust me, I know," she said. "Did you try calling him?"

"Yeah no answer, thought he was over here. You never had family?" he asked wanted to know more about her. He felt at ease with her so close to him and chatting like real humans do. Now he understood what Jacob ment when he said, he could feel like human.

"Yeah, well not much of one anyway. In a nut shell world, mom was a drunk, daddy was a gambiler, never had much money got tossed to the street many of times, parents died in car accident, i lived with another aunt for a while, but her boyfriend caused some problems, so then I came to live with this aunt, and now im finally getting good out of life. Jacob is just a bonus," she said with a smile. Emmett just looked at her. "Sorry, not sure why i just told you all this, but that's the basics, there's more, but I dont care to talk about it all," she said as she stood up next to him.

"Wow, crazy life for a pretty girl," he said to her as he glanced down at her.

"Ha, yeah. If I was so pretty, I'm sure i'd have my first boyfriend by now, or date to the dances," she said as she turned to look out over the moon lit yard.

"Kansas, you are very pretty, dont let anyone else tell you different," he said to her and he did the same. He didn't want to leave her alone. He felt like he had to stay and didn't know why. She glanced at him with a blush and smiled.

"Thank you," she said. "So, how was Paris?" she asked him changing the subject.

"It was nice. Pretty," he said to her with a smile. He told her a little about the tower and the towns and different places to shop.

"I'd love to go one day, but my luck, only in my dreams," she said as she sat down on the swing again.

"Don't say that. Maybe one day you'll go," he said to her as he sat with her.

"Yeah. Maybe," she said with a pause. "Can I ask you something and I know we just met and all."

"What's up?" he said to her.

"Have you ever felt so close to something and like then you could disappear with no warning?" she asked. He could tell something was bothering her.

"Are you talkin about Jacob?" he asked her.

"Yeah, I'm starting to get this feeling that I need to just let him do his thing ya know. Like, I need to just let him go back to hanging out with you and your family like he did before me because that's when he was happiest. And then he was sad when you guys all left, then here comes me and I feel like i lifted him up, but now my times up, like i served my purpose," said she trying to figure away to say it.

"Kansas, if you are meant to be in his life longer, time will tell," he said. He sat there a bit thinking of what he just said and stood up. "I've gotta run, but tell Jacob I was looking for him." he said as he took off towards his car. Kansas sat there a little out of place because he gave good advice, and took off like something was wrong. She went inside locked the doors and went to bed.
