Dear Lucas,
I don't know how to separate everything I'm feeling. One minute I'm so excited to be with you—like actually get to have a moment where we aren't waiting for a stupid plane to board. My brain gets fuzzy with all these thoughts about what we might do together and my heart does this silly thing where it beats super fast, then stops beating all together for a second. It's as confused as I am.
Then something reminds me about where you are going and how long you'll be gone. I know we've already survived a year apart, but that was when I hadn't really held you yet. When you drop me off at that airport, I will know what it's like to be held in your arms. I will know what it feels like when your bare chest is pressed against mine and our hearts can actually beat together. I will know how truly, madly, deeply I'm in love with you...and then I'll have to let you go again.
I can't think about that too long. It makes my heart ache so much it's hard to breathe. At times, I feel like there are these big, strong hands that have reached inside my chest and taken hold of my lungs. This deployment is squeezing every ounce of happiness out of my soul.
So I'm going to think about the positives. In just a few hours I'm going to be in your arms! I'm going to kiss your neck and taste your lips again. You're going to take me home. We aren't going to spend our time in some airport lounge or coffee shop. We are going to have our own little place with a door that closes to block out everyone else! What are we going to do? Wait—don't answer that...just show me when I get there.
I love you Lucas. We're going to get through this. You are going to come home and NEVER leave me again.
Love,
Bailey
P.S. Dear Diary,
I love a man in uniform. I love how brave he is and how ready he is to do what needs to be done for our country. I also love how ready he is to do what needs to be done for me ;) This man in uniform, he is the love of my life. My. One. And. Only. He's going to come home to me because he isn't replaceable. I love him and I'll love him forever.
