Bailey
He held my hand across the front seat of his truck. Every chance he could, he looked over to me, smiling quickly before returning his gaze to the street in front of us. The energy buzzing was fogging up the windshield and leaving my cheeks glowing pink. We couldn't get to the hotel fast enough. I wanted to see everything, but more than that, I wanted to see all of him. My imagination had been hard at work, but I knew there was nothing I could conjure up that was going to hold a flame to the real life Lucas.
He pulled the truck into a parking lot of a large hotel. As he drove down the length of the parking lot, he brought my hand up to his lips so he could kiss the back of it. Something in that movement changed the energy into something more tender. Yes we were a boy and girl that couldn't wait to take each other's clothes off, but I also felt how deeply he cared for me. In that one small act of affection, I felt how important I was to him all the way down to my toes. I knew it was true, because he was the most important thing in the world to me too.
When he finally pulled into a spot, he turned to me and grinned. He looked so young beneath that green fabric hat. He was old enough to die for his country, but really, he was just a boy in love with a girl. It was as beautiful as it was tragic. I squeezed his hand and leaned across the bench seat to kiss him one more time. Then we hopped out of the truck and into the frigid air. He grabbed my bag and we made our way to the hotel lobby.
"Hello, are you checking in?" the receptionist asked as we entered the big room.
"Yes. I have a reservation for Garver." We stepped up to the counter as the woman typed in his name and took his credit card. With a smile, she handed us an envelope with two keys inside.
"Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Garver. I hope you enjoy your stay. Ice is on the second and fourth floor. Check out is each day at 10am." I felt my lips curve into a big smile. Mrs. Garver. I had no idea how much I'd like the sound of that. Lucas didn't correct her, only smiled down at me as if we had a secret as he took the keys.
We rode the elevator up to the second floor and while I thought there would be so much to say to each other, the excitement of the whole experience left us speechless as the doors slowly opened and we stepped into the large hallway. Our door was just down the hall, and with each step in its direction, my heart climbed higher into my throat. Was I shaking? Maybe a little.
Lucas slid the key into the doorknob and opened it, holding it so I could enter first. The window overlooked a large forest area with tall snow capped trees and I moved immediately moved to press my hand against it. I was from California, sometimes by way of Florida, and snow wasn't exactly an every winter occurrence. It was beautiful. The cold temperature from outside caused the window to fog over with a tiny sheen of moisture. I ran my fingers across it, clearing a space for me to look out.
"Have you ever been to the snow?" he asked from behind me. He pulled me into his arms again, his chest pressed to my back and I closed my eyes so I could focus on every little sensation I felt when his body was so close to mine. The desperate pace from earlier was mellowed, and I realized just then how badly I wanted to take all of this slow.
"A few times as a kid." I tilted my head when his lips brushed against my neck. A tingle ignited from the place where his lips met my skin and rushed across it in a sea of tiny bums then shot straight down my spine. I rested my arms on top of his and pulled them tighter around me.
"Do you want to go out and play in it?" His question made me laugh. He really was a little boy. I shook my head.
"I think I'd rather stay in here." I turned around in his arms. Leaning my face away from his. I watched his eyes take me in. He looked through me, his piercingly perfect gaze seeming to see into my soul.
"I'm so glad you said that." His face moved close to mine. Not quite touching, but near enough that I felt the heat from his skin on my own. I sucked in a tiny breath, noticing the way he moved so that his chest was pressed against mine. The sharp bite of teeth in my lip let my know I'd pulled it between my teeth, worrying it amid the nervous energy sparking between us.
I let it spring free, tracing the path of the bite with the tip of my tongue. His eyes watched closely, following its journey along my pale lips. "Are you going to kiss me again?" I asked, wanting to do so many things, but unable to decide where to start.
"Only every minute of every day that you'll let me." With that, his lips moved to meet mine, teasing them open with a few subtle movements. I closed my eyes and let my thoughts clear. He was going to kiss me forever, and I was going to make sure he kept that promise.
