Jack had just fallen asleep when the door opened.
"How is he?" The nurse whispered.
"Asleep," I whispered back.
"That's good. He's been through a lot today."
"Yeah."
We watched him sleep for a few moments.
"It's almost dinner time. Why don't you come eat?"
"Okay," I whispered.
I slowly got out of Jack's bed, praying to an unknown god he wouldn't wake up.
"I'll be back Jacky," I whispered. "Sleep well." I kissed his forehead gently before following the nurse to the dining room.
As soon as the door shut behind her, I realized something detrimental to my existence.
I was in love with Jack Bassam Barakat.
