“Off we go Selena,” she smiled.

“This is scary,” I said.

“Don’t worry, honey, you were always good at making friends,” she said.

“No I wasn’t,” I said looking at her.

“It’s true,” my thirteen year old sister called from the back seat.

“Shut up Hannah,” I took a deep breath.

“Selena,” my mum took my hand, “I know the move has been heavy on you, but believe me it’s for the better, and I know this high school  so well, my best friend is a teacher here,”

“How come Hannah got to stay in her school,”

“She’s still in middle school dear, now off you go before you get late,”

Hannah stuck her tongue out and smiled. I got off the car. My mum drove off.

I walked slowly into my new school building, my stomach churned.

My mum wanted me to start a new high school in a different neighbourhood, so we moved, but what I didn’t know was that my whole life was about to change in front of my very own eyes.

I walked up to the doors, and opened them with a huge breath, and then it struck me. Horrible, horrible, horrible. The place looked like a dump. And to make it worse, I think all the students were looking at me like I was dressed as a freak. This place was a proper untamed high school. My life was about to begin.

I knew the dangers that lurked in high school, I read about it in all the websites the night before, but when I am facing it in real life, it’s scarier. I walked down the halls looking for my class. I was pushed and shoved and sworn by some pupils, who also learned to spit quite a distance. Finally I reached my class. The class was worse. All the pupils looked at me in shock because I was the only one still dressed like a five year old instead of a normal sixteen year old girl.

I sat down right in the front. Another girl walked in and plopped on my desk.

“Hi,” I smiled.

“Whatever, shut up and don’t talk to me,”

“What? Why are you being so rude?”

She put her legs on the desk. She was wearing tights and a short mini skirt, all black like the demon she was.

“Not being rude, it’s my attitude,” she blew a bubble on my face, the whole class laughed.

“Eww!” I shouted.

“Not disgusting dude, just gum,” she laughed.

“Yes it is!”

“So where you from?” she asked.

“From, California but I was born in Miami,”

“I can see that,” she snorted and looked the other way. She started chatting with some friends.

“So I guess this is my new school, but it is totally drab, you agree?”

She turned around and stared at me like I was crazy.

“What?” I asked.

“Are you serious; is your mum crazy to send you here?”

“Whoa, don’t you go insulting my mama,” I said trying to do the head thing.

“Not pretty and dumb, you’re a keeper,” she smiled and turned around.

“Gosh, am I a threat to you?”
