When I went home my father lectured me about punctuality on which I was snoring half way through. When I awoke I was in heaps of trouble with my parents who grounded me for 2 weeks.
“Really, you are going to behave like this now?”
“Well, time slipped away and I didn’t do anything bad,” I said.
“Sure you didn’t sweety but we didn’t know where or what you were doing?” my mum cooed.
“Okay, I’m sorry, mum”
“Did you go with that boy from the mall?” my mum asked.
“What boy?” my father asked sitting down.
“No boy? What did Hannah tell you mum?”
“Nothing, she just said a boy was talking to you,”
“A boy?” my father asked again, Was he getting old?
“Yes, I was, he returned my pin, and dad you can’t ground me.”
“Why not?”
“Well, just in case I need to attend a function.....such as an award for half yearly, most academically inclined girl!” I shouted and my mum smiled.
“Wow, honey congrats, how many A’s did you get?”
“ 10/10,” I lied.
“Wow, okay fine, because you did well, you are grounded only for this weekend, you are very lucky and congrats,” dad said.
“Thanks guys,” I ran up to my bedroom, did I mention I slept on the couch during dad’s speech?
But something disturbed me as I past Hannah’s room door, I couldn’t help but eavesdrop.
“Are you sure, I don’t think so,”
“Well I am your boyfriend, I deserve a kiss at least why are you such a wimp?”
“I’m not ready, I am too young,” I heard Hannah say awkwardly.
“No you’re not, “
“Yes, now please go,”
I gasped, she had her boyfriend over.
“Well, no fancy me doing nothing here from last night, you let me sleepover,”
“Shut your mouth, you said your mum kicked you out,”
“Darling,” he said.
“Get out!” she shouted.
“Well then fatty,” he said.
“I am not fat,”
I barged in without any thought.
“Get out of my sister’s room now!”
“Sorry,” he ran off.
“How dare you!” Hannah jumped off her bed, wiping her tears.
“I’m sorry, I felt the need to help......”
“Help? You have just caused more problems, Selena, why can’t you just have left me alone, now get out!”
“Out? I just helped you, and because you have a weight problem does not mean you need to take it out on others,” I walked out and slammed the door behind me.
Later Cat called.
“Cat?” I asked surprised.
“Yes,” she sobbed.
“What’s wrong?” I wondered if Josh broke up with her.
“I felt bad for being so mean to you,” she said.
“Is that what you called me for?”
“Yeah, sorry, I shouldn’t have done that,”
“Oh, did Josh break up with you?”
“Break up?” she asked curiously.
“No, you were upset the other day so I thought,”
“No, I wasn’t” she said.
“Oh,so I guess I’ll see you tomorrow at school?” I quickly changed the subject.
“Yeah, school, I saw that you now hang out with Jessica and all of her dweeb friends, but you know Jessica is going to be so mad when she realised u have being using her,”
“Using her? I am her friend now Cat?”
“What? Oh, okay then, I just wont be hanging out with you,” Cat said.
“You’ve changed, what happened to your sweet self,”
“Hey, I am still sweet, if you look carefully, you’ve changed,” I really couldn’t argue with a statement that was true. I wanted Josh so I became one of Jessica’s evil girls.
“Me?” I asked stunned, but something inside of me made my heart pound faster. She knew something was up.
“Yes, you,” I heard her sigh, she then was silent and the phone line went dead.
“Hello?” I screamed, “Hello?” Has she hung up on me?
The next week went by without Cat in school, Josh blushing everytime he saw me and Drake sending me texts all day.
I decided to phone Cat that afternoon.
“Hi, that day you hung up and didn’t come to school for the whole week,”
“Oh, I was sick,” she said nonchalantly.
“Sick? And what about the hanging up?” I asked.
“Look, I’m sorry, I can’t talk right now, I am in huge trouble and please do me a favour and don’t call me again,”
I sighed in frustration. My mum walked into my room and started to clear up. So I knew something weird was going on.
“Um...Selena, your father is going for a business trip for a few days?”
“Business trip, he works as a manager in a bakery shop,”
“He is going! And that’s that, okay?” she asked slamming the desk.
“Okay?” I returned to playing with my blackberry. I eyed her from the corner of my phone. She looked tired as usual and it seemed Dad wasn’t on a business trip, they were having a fight.
“Would you please turn that horrible phone off, it makes stupid sounds all day.” She said.
Suddenly Josh texted me, I looked at my mum folding my clothes, she looked really irritated but the message was from Josh, So I read it anyways.
JoshBabemagnet: Hey there, toots.
Me: You haven’t spoken is so long, Wat’s up?”
JoshBabeMagnet: Oh, well you know.
Me: No, I don’t know and now I am freaking out out because Cat will kill me if she finds out?
JoshBabeMagnet: Who said that you have to be my girlfriend? Kissing doesn’t mean we are together okay?
Me: Oh, so I can tell everyone? I’ll be glad to, and I am going to share it maybe with Cat.
“Put that stupid phone away now!” my mum grabbed my phone from me
“Hey, that was Josh,” I said.
“The one who brought you home late that night, the one who makes you loose those grades?”
“What grades? I won that academic thing?” I said.
“I phoned your teacher like an idiot and told her, that I wanted a time to come for the ceremony, by the way, there is no such thing,” my mum said, she brushed back her hair. She looked so angry i couldn’t even anything.
“You have no respect anymore,” she went on and then after the long lecture ended, the door slammed and I remembered that I was really angry with her. My phone was taken away and I felt so exposed. The next morning I was in for a big surprise.
