"So what's changed since I last saw your family?" Harry asked as we drove along the familiar roads of Cheshire.
I exhaled a deep breath and rolled my black outlined eyes. "Mum and dad split up and John moved out. Since I didn't want to live with just my mother I moved out as well."
"Wow, that's a lot," Harry said as he let out a high-pitched whistle.
I nodded slightly and let my head drop against the cool glass of the window of the car. I let all my thoughts and regrets overcome my mind.
I thought about what my family would think of me now; an almost fully recovered soldier with one of the most famous teenagers in the world vying for her love.
I regretted my earlier thoughts of actually wanting to lock lips with Harry. My hungover mind tended to think things that my normal mind wouldn't even dare to consider.
I wondered why my mother had wanted to have a formal dinner with me and the boy that I supposedly hated and knowing her, there would be a somewhat important reason.
Soon, Harry and I found ourselves parked outside the mansion I used to occupy myself in.
The cracking baby pink hanging baskets held dying flowers in shades of lilac and fuchsia. The old curtains were pulled across to never let any light in for some bizarre reason.
The house looked pretty impressive when you squinted your eyes, but if you didn't you would notice the cracks round the edges.
The house related to the family I happened to belong to. When you saw us in framed pictures and public outings there was nothing wrong, everything was perfect. But when you got the VIP pass behind closed doors you would realise that everything isn't all as it seems. There would be arguments and tears at every corner.
I was glad that Harry knew everything about my family because he would sure as hell judge me if he didn't. He had never told me this, but I knew it would always be the case.
I could always use Harry's shoulder to cry on with any family related problems.
He knew my mother because of her extremely close relationship whilst he was growing up. He also knew that I was often jealous of him in our junior years so I proceeded to make him jealous by getting closer to Anne.
"Evelynn?" Harry interrupted all the thoughts running through my head with a voice full of concern.
"Yeah?" I questioned, snapping my head in the direction that graced Harry's presence; my blond hair flipping as I did.
"Do you want to head in?" He asked politely.
"Do I have to?" I whined in a high-pitched voice rather unlike my usual.
"Yep. Now get out of the car." Harry ordered me with a slight chuckle.
I huffed, but opened the big door and the cold Cheshire air hit me as soon as I got out. I smoothed my navy dress down and attempted to pull up my skin coloured tight with as much elegance as I could muster.
Harry sidled up on my left side and looked at me, I turned my head and looked him straight in the eyes.
He raised his eyebrows in preparation and then held out his blazer covered arm for me to link with my own. I gladly slipped my arm into his and enveloped his warmth by leaning into his side slightly.
We walked up the pebble driveway, the miniature stones somehow managing to get into my brogue clad feet and causing pin pricks of pain with every step I took.
After the thirty seconds walk that felt like a lifetime, up to the grand front door was over we stood nervously in front of the door. Harry reached out his abnormally large hand to press the minute doorbell.
We stood there in a comfortable yet awkward silence for numerous seconds before my mother opened the door.
Her rather curvy figure donned a midnight blue dress with silver diamond like sparkles spread round the waist section. Her blond hair was pinned into a perfect messy bun at the back of her head. Her makeup was done to perfection and her smile was the perfect accessory.
She smiled even brighter as she opened her arms in Harry's direction. He smiled, but took a small glance over to me for an apparent reason before enveloping my mum into a hug.
I just had to stand there whilst my mother hugged her daughter's friend. If a complete stranger had to guess at whom her child was, they would immediately suggest Harry even though no facial features remotely similar.
Out of the blue, a familiar face turned out of the bathroom.
John.
Without even thinking, I ran down the corridor and leaped into his open arms. He lifted me up with no difficulty at all and spun me around in dizzying circles.
My brother honestly meant the absolute world to me, but ever since he moved to the tip of Scotland with his girlfriend Jenna, I hadn't seen him since I returned from Afghanistan.
We had similar blond hair and crystal blue eyes that shone in the sun. Only he was a lot more confident in himself and around others than myself.
My eyes focused on a petite mousy haired woman with jeans and a peplum top latched onto her body. Her green eyes sparkled and her pink lips were carved in a smile.
Jenna.
John dropped me and I went to wrap my arms around her petite frame. We rocked side to side and told each other how much we missed them.
Jenna was like my sister. She understood John and the wreck of our family. I could rely on her with anything and she would help me through it.
We got pulled away from each other by the rough arms of my mother. She shone her usual over happy smile and let go of Jenna and I.
"Do you want to make your way into the dining room where I can make my announcement," She said and gestured wild arm movements to signal where the dining room is when one hundred percent of the people in her company knew exactly where the room was.
When we had all been herded into the room and placed where our name tags were positioned. My mother cleared her throat and stood up.
"I am going to move to America and Evelynn and John are coming with me, regardless of what they say."
What?!
