MaryAnn

Was he scared of me? Maybe I was just over reacting. He definitely didn't swim away from me. He kept looking at my eyes though. It was obvious he saw my red eyes and fangs. I just don't know how to take all of this in.

            A mermaid! Or merman? Either way I actually talked to one! He followed me home. I could smell him. Kileleon...that was his name right? Oh, MaryAnn just stop it! He must have not been afraid of me because I saw him again when I went back outside to hang my clothes. 

"MaryAnn, what were you doing today," my mother walked in with a sort of glow.  

"Ya know momma, I could tell daddy you've been feeding on them animals again," I smiled.

"And I can tell daddy you've been with a mermaid today. I saw him outside watching you." I stayed quiet. "What's were you doing with a mermaid MaryAnn?" My mother’s voice was rising.  

"I saved him. He was dying momma! You should have seen him...I had to heal him!"

 Her hand hit my cheek with a loud crack! My cheek stung and all the air was blown out of me. "Do you know who that is MaryAnn?" I didn't answer her. "That is the prince! He can go tell his parents that you saved him, but they would think you poisoned him! "  

"I- I ..." Tears ran down my cheeks. "I'm not sorry at all" with that said my mom left, and started whispering to herself.

 Kileleon wouldn't do that, would he? I saved him. He knows that. I just put my family in danger. Oh, my. He must have seen momma feed on that animal. I have to find him. Wait what am I saying? I don't know him or his life. I’ll never find him. I can't cross the Merborder, they'll kill me if I get to close. So I’ll just wait and hope I see him again.

* A week later*

"Hey! MaryAnn!" Val snapped her fingers. 

"Huh, what? Sorry."  

"You've been looking at that ocean for days. Please turn your attention to me for five minutes?"  

I sighed, "Okay fine."

“So, there’s a party today and guess who’s going to be there? Brett!”

I looked at Val and raised an eyebrow,” okay so what?”

Val gave me a weird look, “Well isn’t him the guy your parents are hooking you up with? Just a few days ago you were all goo goo gaga over him MaryAnn.”

“Yeah well things change. Look I’ll go to the party but only because I need some fun time.” I looked out the ocean again.

“Great! Bring a bikini because it’s here at the beach,” Val stood up.

I looked up at her and smiled, “Makes it even better.”

            I was ready to party tonight! I decided to straighten my blonde hair which made it look even more gold and I decided on a red bikini. Over the bottoms I put on some white shorts and I put on red converse. Since mostly everything was red today I decided to put on some deep red lipstick, which made my fangs sparkle. I put on some mascara and eyeliner and ran out of my room. Val was there waiting for me at the entrance of the beach and we locked arms together and laughed at the people around us that were already drunk.

            But that’s not why I was here.

            There are only so much people a vamp can handle because of our blood thirst and the beach was filling up pretty fast. Val had already left me for her idiot boyfriend and I was trying to stay out of Brett’s sight. So I went for a walk. At first I wasn’t sure what I was looking for but then I ran. I ran to the rocks where I had found him before and I hoped to find him. I got there and no one was there.

“God MaryAnn you’re such an idiot.” Oh great now I’m talking to myself. I started walking again and this time I got close to the water so only my feet would feel the small waves coming into the shore. The water was cold and I could feel the wet sand between my toes. It was reallt calming to me though. Especially, since I could hear the sounds of whales and fishes and dolphins…

            Wait who’s that? There was a dark shadow standing in the water. I stopped and stared at it. It was a guy. It seemed like he was wearing shorts and a t shirt. His hair fell in front of his eyes in a mysterious, sexy way. I started walking again but even slower this time. I didn’t wanna scare him. He just kept looking out into the ocean, but I couldn’t see his face.

When I got close enough I decided to say something. “Hello.” 

            He jumped and turned to look at me. When his eyes locked on mine he froze. I looked at him. The moon was shining on his face and I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was him, but without his tailfin and this time he actually had a shirt on. I wanted to run to him and ask him if he told his parents about me healing him. But I couldn’t because that was the least of my worries.

“Kileleon…”
