MaryAnn
“Well, isn’t that pretty obvious? I have red eyes and fangs,” I lifted an eyebrow.
Kileleon looked at me then back at the ocean, “My parents warned me about you, and your family.”
“Warned? What’s that supposed to mean?” The winds were starting to pick up which made my hair blow all around me. Kileleon looked nervous.
“They just did,MaryAnn.” He took a step closer to me. “I don’t think you’re evil though. You saved me and I don’t think any other vampire would do that.”
I stayed quiet.
“MaryAnn?”
I sat down on the sand and ran my hand through my hair. I ran my tongue over my fangs and swallowed. Something was triggering my hunger, something that smelled so good. I smelled the air and it was coming from Kileleon, I felt guilty at that moment and put my head in between my legs to block his smell. I felt him sit down next to me. “Kilelon, it’s hard to s’plain all this. All vamps hate mermaids-mermen in your case- but I see nothing wrong with any of you. I’ve lived two hundred years and never in those years have I seen a vamp and a mermaid go at each other. It don’t make sense.”
“You’re pretty old.” It was dead silent for two seconds and then Kileleon started laughing.
“HEY!” I smacked his chest, “How old are you? Like five thousand years old?”
“I’m only six hundred, and that hurt! You’re a vampire you’re too strong for me.”
“Weakling.”
“Oh, really? We shall see about that.”
Then there was a wave of water crashed onto to me. There were tendrils of water wrapping around me ankles which made me lose my balance and fall into the water. I screamed and fell in with a huge splash. I heard Kileleon laughing. So he can control the ocean. He just messed with the wrong girl. While he was still laughing I got up and then I ran. I tackled him onto the sand with a loud thump. I held his shoulders down and locked in his legs with mine. He couldn’t move. He tried to wiggle out but he would just wince in pain.
“I win,” I smile.
“Those fangs look sharp.” He managed to get out.
“They can either cause pain or pleasure. Depending on the situation,” I couldn’t believe that had come out of my mouth and I was still holding him down. He smelled like a guy. I would have expected him to smell fishy, but instead he just smelled comforting. “Uhm..I should let you go.” I got up and walked into the ocean again.
I looked back again and Kileleon wasn’t there anymore. I felt something touch my feet and I screamed. It was a mermaid tail. It was a dark green and very slippery. It shined in the moon and moved with such grace it seemed impossible. Kileleon’s face appeared out of the water. I smiled at him and then he left. I watched him swim away until I couldn’t sense him anymore.
“MaryAnn was that a mermaid?”
I jumped at hearing Val’s voice, “Oh..yes.”
‘What aren’t you telling me?”
“Val…”
“Oh, No MaryAnn. Not with a mermaid. Your parents will kill you.” Val hugged me hoping that her sent would rub off on me so I wouldn’t smell like mermaid.” You’re all wet! One question: was he cute?”
I just laughed and walked back home with her. I sensed Kileleon one time, but never again for the rest of the night.
Or the rest of the month.
