I look at Kileleon to see if he was joking or trying to make me laugh. “What?”

“I’m fighting for you MaryAnn.”

“What do you mean?”

            Kileleon gives me a weird look and lets go of my hands, “MaryAnn ever since that first day I’ve felt a connection with you and it won’t go away.”

“But…You just met me. Kileleon...”

“Look MaryAnn maybe you don’t feel the same way but I escaped from my own grandfather’s castle to find you and tell you this. Yes I know that I’m a mermaid and you’re a vampire, but why should that stop us?” Kileleon looks into my eyes but I look away. “What’s wrong?”

            I take a deep breath to keep myself from breaking apart. I take a seat on the green bench and play around with the hem of my skirt. “Kileleon I thought you were gone. It’s been a month and I just gave up on watching you just a week ago. My parents are arranging a marriage for e and I have a dinner with my future husband tonight. I thought you were gone.” I looked at Kileleon and his face just fell and my heart fell with it. Could I have really fallen for a mermaid? Is this why I feel so guilty?

“I’m so stupid! I came all this way just for you! And I find out that you’re going to be with another man?” Kileleon kicked the sand and sat down on it.

“Will you come to the dinner? It’s in a little bit I’m pretty sure you can hang around for a little right? Without getting caught?” I ran my tongue over my fangs. God he smelled yummy.

“Why do you always touch your fangs around me?”

“Huh? What? Oh, it’s a habit of mine.”

Kileleon sighed, “Okay, I will go. It is at your house?”

“You’ll need new clothes and lots of cologne to take away your mermaid smell. I would go to the store if I were you,” Kileleon just looked at me, “Right, you just escaped no money. I will just call Val to come get you.”

“MaryAnn?”

“Yes?”

“Nothing.”

“Ladies and Gentleman I would like to say something,” My mother really needed to stop saying thing before I rip her head off. “Well I would just like to congratulate my beautiful daughter MaryAnn,” Yup she’s definitely drunk, she’s said that like twenty times already.

            Brett wouldn’t stop trying to look down my dress. As always I turned my back to him and started talking to some girl I knew at school. I excused myself and went to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and let out a huge breathe. I fixed my gold, lose curls and straightened up my dark blue dress. I loved how this dress looked on me. It was strapless and showed every little tiny curve on my body. It only went down to the middle of my thigh and made my chest pop out a little more than it should. The middle of the dress had diamonds that made an intricate design all the way to the top of the dress. After touching up on my make-up I walk out of the bathroom and entering my backyard was Kileleon.

            He had on a black dress shirt with a dark blue tie. He had on dark blue jeans and nice black shiny shoes. His hair was still that sexy “falling in his eyes” hair. He looked handsome. Val saw me and she gave me a thumbs up. I walked over to them slowly but gracefully to keep from tripping on my heels. Kileleon finally saw me and his eyes wouldn’t leave me.

“Well you clean up well,” I fixed his tie a little.

“You look beautiful.”

“Thanks. You’re not so bad yourself and you don’t smell like mermaid.”

Kileleon laughed. It gave me huge butterflies. “I hope that’s a compliment so thank you.”

            Out of the corner of my eye I saw Brett walk over to me. he put his around my waist and I rolled my eyes. “Hey babe.”

“Don’t call me that.” I walked out of his arm and stood next to Val.

“Oh my god.” Kileleon’s face turned hard when he looked at Bret. “You…”

“Uhm, me what?” Brett looked at Kileleon with the same look Kileleon had.

“You’re the vampire that killed my uncle.”

“What? No I didn’t. I don’t even know who you are.”

            In the distance I could hear the waves crashing a little harder than usual. I saw Kileleons fists ball up. All of a sudden there was a huge gust of wind which almost made me fall onto the ground. Kileleon looked at me apologetically. No. this could not happen right now.

“Val get everyone out of here. Now.” I looked at the microphone and told her to get it to tell everyone what they needed to do.

“You’re a little mermaid aren’t you?” Brett was ready to fight.

“Guys, stop please. Kileleon stop with the water thing you’re going to end calling your father and the king please.”

‘Wait you know him? What the hell are you doing getting to know mermaids?” Brett lifted a hand and smacked me across the face. I fell to the ground. Blood was coming out of my lip.

            That had started everything. Two waves of water grabbed Brett and threw him against a tree. Then another tendril of water wrapped around his neck, constricting his breathing. “Don’t ever touch her like that!” Kileleon’s voice roared.

“No Kileleon please stop this. I’m fine. Please.”

Kileleon looked at me and his sweet face came back. He blinked a few times and the water was gone. Relief washed over me and I hugged him. When I stepped back a body slammed onto mine. My breathe was taken out of me and I felt my dress rip.

“No! You’re supposed to be mine not this fish.” Brett locked me onto the ground.

            I made my fangs longer and bit him in the shoulder. He screamed and kneed him where the sun don’t shine. I fell onto his back. I told Kileleon to run but he wouldn’t. I told him again but he still wouldn’t. I told him again but before I could finish I was flying. Half of my dress was on fire and so was my body. I managed to see Brett laughing. Then I fell onto the floor. I couldn’t get up again. My body was burning and the pain was to much. Then I felt something wet on me and the fire was gone. Kileleon had Brett in the air and Kileleon’s eyes were red with anger. This was the prince I was told was evil. They’ve only ever seen this side of him and I couldn’t help but be afraid myself.

            I staggered to get up even though the burn on my side was too much for me. The threads of my dress touched my bare legs. I could feel the dress coming apart little by little with every step I took. Kileleon was squeezing Brett until he was ripping into. I felt something come over me and I saw my hands and arms glowing a light bright blue. I made a circle motion was them, which made a glowing shield right in front of me. I threw it at Brett and he went flying over the trees to who knows where. I dropped to the ground, the blue glow wasn’t there anymore. I felt dizzy all of a sudden. Kileleon screamed for me.

Everything went black

When I woke up again I wasn’t in my own home I was…

I was underwater.
