Miki's PoV
"Oh my god, Nolan, stop it!" My stomach aches from all the laughter. This will probably be my last time ever seeing him this close to being a child.
With a broad dimpled grin, he's been giddy ever since we've arrived at his domain. Specifically, tickling the hell outta me.
"I don't think I've been this happy and relieved my entire life." It wasn't hard for him to corner me into his room and of course, lock the door behind him.
Normally this would alarm me, but right now I don't feel the slightest bit of it. Am I trusting too much?
"Okay, okay, seriously. Stop." I let out a quick breath and made myself comfortable sitting on the large king-sized bed.
"Now shut up and listen to me, you ignorant bastard." I crossed my legs and gestured him to come over.
His eyes narrowed a little bit as he strolled over and sat down beside me, "That bossy side of yours is going to drive me nuts one day."
Just to get more on his nerves, I moved to sit on his lap and faced him. "As I've tried to tell you but you never listened..."
I reach into the secret pocket in my jacket and pull out the diamond necklace, safe without a scratch, "I got it, you know."
"You...." His expression was epically surprised as he slowly took it in his hands as if it would shatter with the slightest touch.
Just then, he glanced down at my V-neck shirt. He then unhooked the necklace and hung it around my neck. I look down on the shining diamonds.
"It belonged to my mother. It brings out your eyes, don't you think?"
"If it's a memento, I shouldn't be wearing it..."
"Keep it on." He rests his hand on my cheek gently, "You're the only girl I've ever learned to love."
Nolan's PoV
After Miki fell asleep, I snuck out of the room and closed the door softly behind me.
Father was still in his work suit, furrowing his brows as he signed some papers. He was ordering security cameras and alarms. He always thought that we should remain humble in ways, but I guess he realizes now that basic necessities aren't enough for a family that isn't average.
"I'll have two cameras outside of every single window, an alarm each for the front and back door, and one in the greenhouse." He spoke into his cell, "oh, and by the way, get a few guards."
That necklace thievery incident really shook him.
I guess mom was always the most important person to him in his heart after all.
I remember the bullet-proof glass case that was resting on the living room table I saw when I got back. He's planning on taking the necklace seriously instead of just tucking it in along with everything else in a jewelry box.
When I handed him the necklace, he looked at it long and hard, as if imagining how mom looked like when she wore this on their wedding day.
"Thanks, son." I haven't seen that kind of expression on him for years.
But of course, he's not staying so serious and touchy for long.
"So... about that girl that you brought here...? Nina said it's her fourth time here already? And three times she slept over... in your bed?"
I thought I told her not to tell him...!
"I've gotta say, Nolan, you're a little late than when I was your age to begin relationships, but you're already having girls sleep over?"
