I will not take showers for granted again.

Who knew that hot showers could change your mood in an instant?

I sighed happily as the warm water drizzled down onto my aching body.  It felt so good to take a shower after sleeping in a filthy cell for hours.  Viola had made me take a long shower to "cleanse my body thoroughly", which was fine with me.

After another 5 minutes, I got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around myself, stepping outside of the bathroom and into the "preparation room".
It was a huge room with 3 dressing tables, racks of dresses, shelves full of shoes and trays of makeup and hairdryers, curling irons and straighteners.  This place was prepared for an avalanche of models.

"Sit down at one of the dressing tables,"  Viola's terse voice snapped me out of my daydreaming.

I reluctantly walked over to one of the freakishly-large dressing tables and sat down in the chair.
I felt like I was auditioning to be a Victoria's Secret Angel instead of being auctioned for vampires.  My stomach turned unpleasantly at the thought.  This was not how I wanted to live my life.  I wanted to fall in love, get married, have children and die old with my loving husband.

I sighed and ran my fingers through my wet and tangled hair.
"Harper!" Viola's voice rang through the room and a petite girl that looked around my age walked in.  She had warm brown eyes, a small round face and chocolate curls.

What was a young and sweet looking girl like her have to do with a place like this?

"Get this human ready for the auction by 5 o' clock."  With that, she trotted out of the room on her spindly high heels.

Wow, this lady needed to learn basic manners like: "please" and "thank you".

The girl walked nervously over to me.  She picked up a bottle of foundation and began smearing that on my face.

"Is everybody here a vampire?" I asked her.

Her eyes widened, surprised at my question.

She continued to do my makeup before answering quietly, "Yes, most of the people here are vampires except for the humans they are selling."

"Are you one of the humans they sell here?"  I asked curiously.

"No, I'm a vampire,"  She said simply.

My mouth dropped.  I would never have guessed.  She looked so innocent to be a monster.

"You seem so different from the vampire I have met so far.  So does that mean that Viola's a vampire too?"

"Yep."

"Well, I wouldn't really be surprised if she was a gorgon too,"  I admitted.

She let out a small chuckle.

"I'm glad I'm not a vampire, uh no offence."

"I never wanted to be one,"  She whispered so quietly that it was almost inaudible.

When she had finished my hair and makeup Viola came back into the room.

"Ah, you look more decent and presentable now,"  She announced in her overly-posh tone.

Did that bitch mean to say that I was ugly?

Before I could shoot her my death glare she sauntered over to the racks of dresses.

I groaned.  Dresses has always been a no-no for me.  I always considered them to be an excuse for women to flash their boobs and butts.  Same goes for bikinis.

"This is the perfect dress!" Viola declared as she held up a sheer blue velvet dress with a sweetheart neckline and a line of lace running along the bottom of it.

"Oh, hell no!"  I cried, jumping up from my seat.  "I am not wearing that thing."

Her eyes turned a blood red colour and flashed angrily.

"Well perhaps you would prefer if I get Roland to force you into it?  You remember your friend from the cell, don't you?"  She asked, threateningly.

If she means the big, burly sociopath, then yes.  I remember him.

"Never mind, I'll do it myself, thank you very much."  I grabbed the dress from her and ran into the bathroom to put it on.

* * * * *

I shifted nervously in my tight dress.  It was super short and barely covered my derrière.  I was standing in a long line with about 20 other girls who looked like they were about to collapse on the spot. We were lined up backstage and one by one, each girl was called up onto the stage and auctioned.
It was so sad to think that this is what we're worth.  So many young lives being taken away by some stupid vampires.  If only I could kick their bloody asses.

1 hour has passed and it was down to 3 girls including myself.  I was the last in line.  My palms started to sweat and I rubbed them up and down my thighs, trying to calm my nerves.

As the girl's name in front of me was called I started to get fidgety.
Oh, my lord.  Who was I going to be auctioned to?  Would he be nice?  Would he be a cocky bastard?

"Hey, you there!" A backstage worker hissed at me.  "Your up now."

My legs began shaking so badly.
I slowly trudged up the steps onto the stage.  I took a few deep breaths before finally stepping into the blinding light.

There had to be at least 150 vampires here right now.  Each one of them sat at a table and was sipping on a dark ruby liquid which I didn't want to know about.
The auctioneer was a small, pot bellied man who looked to be in his 50s.

"Okay gentlemen, the last human to be auctioned tonight.  Her name is Isadora Pallas, she's 5ft 10, blood type O and 18 years old."
Huh?  How in God's name did they get all of that information about me?

As I looked at at the crowd I could see all of their eyes on me.
I was thinking maybe because of my blood type.
Some looked at me hungrily, sadistically or lustfully.

Perverts!

"Okay. We'll start at 250,000."  The auctioneer's voice called.
Several hands went up.

"500,000."  Another set of hands hit the air.

"750,000."  Same thing again.  Wow, was I really worth that much?

"800,000."  This is going to be a long evening.

Just then I heard a deep, husky voice say, "1 million for the girl."

I snapped my neck towards the voice but the dude was mostly hidden in the shadow of the dim light.  All I could see was his stormy grey eyes burning into me.
The other vampires just sank back into their seats and grumbled.  I guess not a lot of girls were auctioned for 1 million.

"1 million, going once, going twice.  Sold to Lord Lucien Abelló!"

Lucien...so that was his name.
Well Lucien, I hope you're prepared for what's coming your way because I sure won't make your life easy for you.
