hot oil hair treatment how-to

Recently, I wrote a mini-guide for treating frizzy hair in the Girl Journal. One of the tips was my recommendation of hot oil treatments. One of my readers said she'd like an entry in the Girl Journal to be a hot oil treatment how-to. So here it is, by request! =)

1. Wash your hair the day you plan to do the hot oil treatment, and when you start the treatment, do not apply any hair products on beforehand. Make sure your hair is damp, but not wet. Microwave either olive oil or coconut oil for one minute in a microwave safe bowl. Use 1 cup for thick hair, 1/2 cup for fine hair.

2. Wrap a towel around your shoulders to prevent your clothes from getting any oil on them. Brush your hair from tips to head to remove all tangles.

3. Dip a brush (a watercolor/hobby brush will work as long as it is clean/unused) into the olive/coconut oil and drag the brush over your whole scalp, starting at your front. Reapply oil onto the brush as needed, and cover your whole head in oil, or in all dry areas. Massage the oil into your scalp and hair, if necessary.

4. Leave the oil in your hair for 30 minutes (if you want, in a hairnet or towel). Rinse hair with cold or cool water, and then wash with shampoo. Apply conditioner as well, then rinse thoroughly.

Your hair should be moisturized and less dry after this treatment, especially if you do it consistently, at least once every week.

I also have one other part of caring for your hair coming up too in the Girl Journal!  Vote if you liked this, and comment too! ;)

XOXO,
