Chapter Eleven:
Heart to Hart

Twelve weeks pregnant

I was in the waiting room of the doctor's office with my mom when my phone buzzed, revealing a notification that I received a text.

Josh: Where are you? Can we meet up?

Me: I'm at the doctor's right now. After?

Josh: What??? Why are you at the doctor's? Is everything okay?

Me: I'm fine, Josh. In case you've forgotten, tiny human sprouting inside of me. And I'd like to make sure it stays that way. You can cool it on the punctuation! Lol.

Josh: Okay, okay. Lmk when you get out.

"Maya Hart?" A lady holding a clipboard called out, with a genuine smile.
My mom stood up and I followed behind her down the hall. I wanted to run but I knew I couldn't, mostly because the main reason I wanted to was to get away from myself.

We walked out, into the waiting room and a group of people stood up. Josh, Cory, Topanga, Riley, and Auggie.

Cory and Topanga both gave me a sympathy smile before walking over and hugging me. I've been getting a lot of that lately.

When they released themselves from me, Topanga rubbed her hands down her legs and sighed.

"Well! Is it a boy or girl?!" Auggie looked around at everyone and called out when no one spoke.

Cory, Topanga, and my mom all laughed a little.

"We don't know yet sweetie. She won't find out the sex until she's at least eighteen weeks. You're how far?" She asked hesitantly.

"Uh," I paused, I must've looked like I'd forgotten but I was really just frozen inside myself, "twelve weeks."

Auggie looked at her with his mouth dropped.

"The gender, honey." She said in her obvious Topanga way of calling someone a ditz. I laughed.

"We really wanted to be here for you, Maya. We love you." Cory said to me, Topanga nodding her head, smiling, "We're still in shock but we- we will get used to it. And we're going to be here."
"We're really sorry for the way we acted, Maya. We do love you." Topanga let out. I kissed her cheek and hugged Cory.

"Thank you."

"So how is the baby? This was the check up right, they see if she's okay?" Riley said walking forward, changing the subject, Josh following behind her.

"Oh, so you're calling my baby a 'she' now?" I gave her a serious face, "no one ever said 'she'."

"I want a 'she'! Then you could name her something cute! You know, Maya, if I had a little girl, I would name her 'Maya.' I could call her 'peaches,' or 'little Maya.' After my very best friend." She gave me a Riley smile.

"Thanks, Peaches. I'm never naming my baby after you." I laughed before walking away.
Josh walked over to me.

"How's baby rascal?"

I couldn't help but giggle at the new nickname.

"Good. Healthy. Just dying to watch Netflix and binge out on junk food, and I think I'm gonna do that." I laughed, "for the baby of course."
