Chapter Fifteen:
Me for Him

Sixteen weeks pregnant
"Hey, Riley–"
She stood up on the couch in a heart beat as she smiled and placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Daddy," she said innocently, "I would love to fake enjoy whatever is you want me to but Maya's back today and you know the–"

"Yeah, yeah." He shook her off and the door flew open exposing a blonde with nothing but excitement on her face.

"Maya!" She yelled as she jumped into her arms.

"Riles!"

"I want to know everything! Oh, I'll get some snacks!" She jumped back and ran to the kitchen.

"Ooh! You know what im really craving right now?" She hinted.

"Already got it!" Riley said, immediately knowing what it was.

She rushed back, threw the tons of junk foods on the cushion between them, handed Maya a jar of creamy peanut butter and a hershey's bar and then plopped down.

"So?"

"Oh, we had the most amazing week, Riles." She spoke with her exaggerated hand motions, "He is so amazing. We went to this beautiful cabin up in the valleys, did you know there are actually horses? Oh, it was like nothing I've ever seen before. Its like– like we've known each other forever. I think that road block was the best thing thats happened to me in years," Her face was full of joy and real happiness, for the first time in a long time.

"I'm so happy for you Maya, really. This is amazing," She smiled, more than happy for her best friend who was finally excited about something.

"Thank you, Riles and you know," she slowly stood up, holding Riley's hand, "I would love to stay and talk more but I'm going to see my mom before she leaves for work."

"I understand. But I want more later," she demanded, "or I'll start getting Maya withdrawals."

She ran out the door and within seconds later she ran back in, grabbed the jar of peanut butter and the chocolate bar and snuck back out while Riley was in the kitchen.

When she finally got to the apartment she was jumping with joy. She fished through her purse for her keys and opened the door.

"Mom!" She yelled into the vacant living room as she started searching the apartment, "Mom–"

She walked into her mother's bedroom and found her laying naked under the covers beside him.

She stood there in the doorway, shocked and angry; losing any happiness she had gotten from the getaway or from seeing Riley.

He turned his head and rubbed his eyes as he sat up exposing his bare chest. When he noticed her standing in the doorway, he froze.

"Maya ..."

When he spoke, it awakened her and she did the same as him: turned her head, rubbed her eyes and rather than sit up, she looked at his dropped jaw with a confused face and turned towards me.

She jumped up, covers in hand.

"Maya, sweetheart! You're home early!"

Maya scolded her mother "No, actually I'm a week late," She turned out of the room and marched over to the front door with her bag over her shoulder and her mother threw over a big t-shirt and ran out.

"You didn't answer any of my calls and here I thought you lost your phone or may have been hurt, but this, ma. This." she scoffed, turning around to the door.

"Where are you going?" She chuckled innocently as if she hadnt just betrayed her own daughter.

"Im leaving. You can be with him all you want mom but I am not going through this again. I will not relive my childhood. I think I'll save myself the disappointment. You can do whatever the hell you want with him... at the cost of me. It's me for him."

"Oh yeah? And where do you plan on going? The Matthew's ... huh? The two people who don't support you? Or, or! Josh? You gonna live with Josh in his dorm room, pregnant?!"

She scoffed and stormed out of the apartment, slamming the door behind her.

As she slid down the outside wall of the apartment, her thoughts started to wander.
My mom was right in a way; I really dont have anywhere to go. Riley's family isn't even an option seeing as they still haven't gotten passed my being pregnant, Josh is back at N.Y.U by now, Lucas and I haven't spoken since the cafe.
She stood up and started walking. She decided to just let her heart guide her until she got somewhere.

She wandered around New York for about two hours. She felt pelts of rain splashing against her body, starting slow and then turning into a heavy storm with thunder and lightning leaving her terrified and alone in the middle of the city.

She kept walking to nowhere until she wound up on his doorstep with her fist in a ball, ready to knock. Instead, she put her hand down and sat on the steps in the rain; she didn't have the courage to face him yet. Not knowing if she ever would.

Lightening struck and thunder roared overpowering the sound of a door opening and footsteps coming closer.

"Maya?" He yelled over the loud noises of nature.

She was afraid to face him so she kept staring straight into the night as her eyes followed the sky's actions and cried out for help.
"What are you doing out here?! You could get sick! ....Come on."
He wrapped his arms around her and led her up the stairs and into his huge, nicely decorated home.

He brought me up to his room and gave me a blanket before he went and made hot chocolate for the both of us.
"Thank you." I tried to give him my best assuring smile, "How was your trip?" I asked ignoring the big elephant in the room.
"Maya, what happened? Why were you sitting outside in the middle of a thunder storm on my doorstep?"
I looked down at my mug and observed the mini marshmallows floating around in the brown beverage.
"My life is falling apart, Farkle." My voice cracked as i stared him in the eyes. "I'm pregnant and Lucas wants nothing to do with it, Riley's the only one in her family who doesn't still look at me like I'm a stranger, I left my mom's with no where to go. I have no one." I cried out to him as he grabbed both cups and set them on his night stand.

"You have me." He said, wrapping his arms around me, "My parents are in L.A. right now, you can crash here until they get back and then we'll go from there."

"No, I couldn't. I don't want to be a bother."

"You can and you will. I'm always here for you Maya. And there's no way I'm leaving my best friend and her baby out in the streets."

"Farkle--"

"And no more wandering around alone at night. The city is a dangerous place! Now, get some rest, you can sleep in the bed and I'll sleep on the couch right over there."

"Farkle." She said as he tucked her into the sheets and he replied with a simple "hmm?"

"Can you sleep with me tonight? I don't want to be alone."

He crawled under the sheets and faced her as she laced together her fingers with his.

"Thank you." She whispered and faded off to sleep.
