Gajeel x Reader ~ People Change but Love Doesn't

You don't know how it happened, no one does. You woke up that morning, ready to go to Fairy Tail for another amazing day. But you show up at Fairy Tail and it is completely destroyed. There are metal poles going everywhere. You were relieved that no one was inside when it happened and no one was injured. But it hurt, it hurt to see the place you grew up in destroyed.

As you stared intently at the poles, you couldn't help but feel as though the poles are familiar. It puzzled you, so you let it be and continued being mad with the other members. 

Everyone made their way to the basement, that was luckily not destroyed. It was figured out that Phantom Lord was the cause of this and Natsu wanted to fight them. Master Makarov stopped him from doing it to be out of the Magic Council's anger if they did. It was the logical explanation but it still felt wrong to you.

 At the end of the day, everyone decided to go home and rest so that they could fix the guild tomorrow. But as you were walking home, you heard Levy with Jet and Droy happily walking home. But what was bothering you was there was an evil, unknown presence tailing them.

Being a good friend and a powerful wizard, you made your way to Levy and the guys to protect them. Just when a pole of metal was about to hit Levy, you pushed her out off the way and stopped the attack with your arm.

"(Y/n)!" Levy screamed at you as you took a step back from the impact.

"Levy! Jet! Droy! Get out of here! I don't know who this is but get to safety! I will take care of them!!" You yell at them. They all scurry to their feet and take off, not because they're scared or would back down from a fight. But because you were very persuasive, you could make Laxus and Titania do what you want.

Once Levy leaves, the metal retreats and comes back, faster and harder. It hits you in a direct impact, launching you backwards. Because of it being dark, you have no idea what the person looks like. But you can make out their figure which helps you fight. 

You ended up fighting the person for an hour until you felt worn out. And for a split second you let your guard down, earning a hit in the back of the head. You black out and don't remember a single thing that happens afterwards. But what you do know was that you were found on a tree, bolted to it with the Phantom Lord mark painted on your stomach.

Because of the horrible beat down from the unknown person, you ended up in a coma for two weeks. In those weeks, Fairy Tail defeated Phantom Lord and Gajeel and Juvia joined the guild. Everybody knew that Gajeel hurt you except Gajeel and you. Gajeel never figured out who he hurt and really didn't want to know.

Exactly two weeks after Gajeel hurt you, you woke up from your coma, refreshed. You sprang out of the infirmary bed and sprinted out to the guild hall. Once you made it there you realized that it was all different and the memories came back from when the guild was destroyed. But it got all wiped away when  you saw all the happy faces on the members.

You walked through the guild hall, people were saying that it was great to see you up and alive. Which you laughed at. But as you were walking you noticed a childhood friend that you haven't seen in years.

"GAJEEL?!?!" You yelled/asked. Gaining the metalheads attention, he turned around and saw you standing. He immediately grinned at the sight of you and you jumped into his arms for a big hug.

"I've missed you so much!" You exclaim as Gajeel puts you down and does his famous 'geehee'

Everyone in the guild looks at this reunion with confusion. They were confused on why you were happy to see the guy that put you in a coma.

"(Y/n) if you were apart of this guild, where were you?" Gajeel asks, confused as to why he hasn't seen her. "Oh some guy beat me up and pinned me to a tree." You told him, showing him your injures.

There was a look of complete horror and shock written all over Gajeel's face. You gave him a confused look and asked, "Gajeel are you okay?"

"Uhh....(y/n)?" Lucy asked you.

"What is it, Lucy?" You asked.

"Well the person that put you in a coma was.....uh.....Gajeel." Lucy told you. It felt as if your whole world shattered. You stood still in shock. You turned to Gajeel to see a look of sorrow and regret. The sight sent tears to your eyes.

"(y/n)......." Gajeel tried to start.

"STOP!" You yelled at him, tears falling cleanly down your cheeks. You sprinted your way out of the guild straight home. Once you were there you slammed the door behind you, as you leaned on the door, sliding down. You hugged your knees as you cried into them.

"Why?" You questioned yourself. "Why did he? He promised." 

"He promised he would never hurt me."

Flash Back~

You were around the age of 8. A few months ago, Gajeel came wandering in your village looking for his dragon. You took him to your parents and he lived there now. You instantly became best friends, easily breaking down the tough guy he was.

But Gajeel wanted to become a strong wizard that his dragon wanted him to be. So Gajeel ended up leaving to travel and find a guild. But you didn't want let go of Gajeel.

"You're really leaving?" You asked Gajeel in tears.

"Yes, (y/n). I need to become strong, like what my dragon wanted me to be." Gajeel responded, looking at the sun rise.

"But strong people can hurt people. Are you going to hurt me?" You ask him, shaking a little.

"I would never hurt you." Gajeel said turning to you, looking at you with loving eyes.

"You promise?"

"I promise." Gajeel tells you, turning back to the sun rise. You run forward, wrapping your arm around Gajeel from behind. Gajeel left your arms and walked forward to a life without you. But just when he was about to be out of sight, he turn around and shouted, "I LOVE YOU, (Y/N)!" 

And then he disappeared and you never got to say it back.

Flashback Ended~

He changed and you knew that. He wasn't the person he used to be. He hurt you and he promised you he wouldn't. What other lies has he told you? You asked yourself.

With Gajeel here, you couldn't be in Fairy Tail. You had to leave and discover a new future for yourself. You didn't want to live in the past. You stood up from your crying state and made your way to your room, packing everything that was essential.

Once you had everything, you made your way out of your house and started walking towards that path that lead out of Magnolia. But you heard someone call your name. "(Y/n)!!"

You turn around and see Gajeel running to you. You stop and wait for him to come. "(Y/n)....I'm so sorry, I couldn't see that it was you. I'm so sorry, please don't leave." Gajeel pleaded, looking at his feet. You noticed that Gajeel was indeed crying.

You place your hand on his cheek, making him look up at you. You lean forward and place a soft kiss on his lips before pulling away and turning around. "I'm sorry but I have to go." You say walking forward to where he won't be able to reach you.

But just as you were about to disappear you stop and turn around, tears falling down your face as you watch Gajeel turn around and walk back to the guild.

"I LOVE YOU!" You scream at Gajeel as he turns around. He sees you smiling and crying. But before Gajeel could do anything, you sprinted off your feet, running to a place where he couldn't reach you.

He changed and you knew that, but the love you guys shared didn't.
