Ruben's POV

The four of us sat down at the edge of the freezing gymnasium and formed a circle. I set down my almost empty school bag filled it up with some knives, rope from the gym, my trusty foil hat and a blanket from the medical room. Hazel sat opposite me, her face slightly flushed from crying holding two Tesco bags filled with food, Lion holding a handful of knives from cleaver knives to butter knives. And this new girl called 'Kerry', well she just held a stubby looking knife, a biscuit jar and a slightly melted candle with a box of matches.

"So we need a plan on what to do," Lion stated as we made ourselves comfortable on the floor.
"Well we need to be careful," I said, "because we don't know what could be out there."
"Agreed," Lion nodded, "something may have happened during the explosion and our houses could have been destroyed so we'd need to find somewhere to stay. But what about our paren-?" she suddenly stopped and looked towards Hazel as she looked towards the ground, her face scrunched up trying not to cry.
"You alright?" Kerry asked, "nudging her gently on the elbow."
Hazel sniffed as she wiped her eyes. "I'm okay," she murmured, "it's just..." but she suddenly burst into hysterical tears, "m-m-my parents were in the building."
Kerry shuffled awkwardly beside, "oh...um...sorry," she murmured.
Her words where then followed by an awkward silence as sniffles came from Hazel's direction.
"But they could have been out of the building when the building exploded," I pointed out earning a  glare from Lion.
"Shut up!" She hissed but Hazel gazed up to stare at me.
"You...You could be right," she whispered, "could we maybe go and check around the building? If that's not a problem."

Everyone looked towards each other hesitantly as Hazel looked at us with hopeful eyes.
"Yeah...um...okay," Lion nodded, "but we need to be careful getting there as some buildings may have been knocked by the explosions and debris may be all over the place."
"Good point," Kerry nodded, "and we need to find someway to get there."
"Well we could maybe nick the school coach as it seems like it's only us left to fend for ourselves, because my parents are in Scotland..." I added.
"And ours are away in France," Kerry added, pointing towards Lion.
"...okay," Lion sighed, a grave look on her face, "well let's get going then."
