HAZEL'S POV

"Yeah, c'mon we better hurry" said Kerry, about to open the front door.
"Stop!!!" I yelled
"Wha-?" She said turning around
" There's a freakin' zombie outside you twat!" I shouted at her, She looked like she was about to cry and ran over to the staircase.
"Hazel!" Lion whisper-shouted at me. I gestured a halo on top of my head and she glared at me.
"Where's the back door?" I asked Ruben.
"Follow me,"she said gesturing towards the kitchen. We check out the window quickly, and once we'd made sure that there were no zombies were about, we opened the door.
"Oh crap, the bus is at the front of the house, we're gonna have to go round! Ruben and Kerry, you go round the right side of the house, and me and lion will go round this side, everyone good?" They all nodded, "try not to get eaten!" Only Ruben laughed a bit at my feeble attempt at a joke. "Right, let's go!" And we were off. Lion threw a knife in an old ladies head, I shot someone who worked, or used to work at the tanning salon in town.
"Well, that was pretty eas-"
"Lion, watch out!" I screamed as a fat guy with yellow skin reached out at her. Suddenly his eyes crossed and there was a disgusting squelching noise, the zombie fell to the ground to reveal a chuffed looking Ruben dusting her hands off.
"Right, lets go to the factory then!"

After we'd all piled into the truck and set out our belongings, lion still looked white as a page. "Thanks for helping me out there," she said to Ruben
"Nah, your fine dude," Ruben said awkwardly, she wasn't used to people being so serious towards her.

The ride to the factory was silent and all that could be heard was the knives rattling around in our bags and the occasional bump when Ruben drove into a zombie. It was the middle of the day, so we decided to take a quick break for food and water.
"Right, first we need to know everybody's skill's and if your allergic to something or whatever. Ruben, you go first."
"Erm, I know a lot of combat, and how to use most types of guns. Oh, and I can drive." She said, smiling. I gestured to lion to start talking.
"Well, I know loads of types of knots, I can fish and sail quite well if I say so myself."
"Where's Kerry?" I asked looking around
"Oh, she's sleeping up at the wheel."
" okay.. so that just leave me. I can cook, I know first aid and I know which plants are poisonous and which aren't"

We then agreed that Ruben would teach us all how to use guns, lion would make traps to catch animals and would also fish for us and I would cook.
"We're here!" Ruben said suddenly. Gosh, I must've fallen asleep, looks like the sound of running over people can lull you to sleep. "Are you sure you want to go in? There are loads of zombies here, and I hate to be blunt, but they're either dead or they're zombies, there's not much hope, Hazel."

'Not much hope?' How could she say that to me?' I thought, staring at her in horror as anger began to bubble up inside me and before I knew it, I had punched her in the nose, and walked to the back of the bus.
"Hazel!" Lion said running after me, "you can't just go around punching people!"
"She deserved it!" I said rubbing my knuckles.
"I'm being seri-" lion was interrupted by a sudden scream.
"What's happening?" I yelled as I shoved lion out of the way and ran to the front of the bus. A zombie had snuck up on us and had smashed the glass with a log and was currently pulling Kerry out.
"HELP ME!!" She screamed as the glass cut through her stomach as she was pulled outside. Ruben was about to reach over and grab her hand, but I grabbed her and pulled her back.
" if we try and help, we'll only get infected.. She's on her own now.." I said solemnly whilst waterfalls of tears fell down my cheeks. This was MY fault, her blood was on my hands.

The zombie had almost fully pulled her out, but she was still struggling with blood pouring out of her mouth and some of her intestines hanging out of her. Her cries for help had now merely reduced to a whisper, I think she'd realised that we couldn't help her anymore. The zombie hit her head savagely with the same log that it used to break the windscreen and she was out cold. He attacked her head with a sharp piece of rock until the top part of her skull had fallen off. There was blood everywhere, all over the van, a trail of it that led to the zombie, and Kerry was covered from head to toe in blood. The zombie had begun its meal on our friend and none of us could bear to look at it. "Let's go..." I whispered to Ruben and she sat down in a pool of blood and crushed glass, and we drove away in silence...

Hey guys! It's been a long time since the last update, so sorry about that! This chapter was a bit gruesome, but I hope that you still enjoyed it
