Cole's POV

I had to leave Scarlet's house. I didn't want to, but my brother, Deacon, doesn't like it when I am gone for too long. I ran through the woods to my family's cave. We live in a cave because it hides our identities. My mom and dad were out hunting. Deacon was standing in front of the cave entrance. "Where were you!?" he asked angrily. "Taking a walk." I lied. Deacon is one of those vampires that can't read minds. He just wants the blood of innocent humans. He stomped into the cave. I went inside and got a steak out of the fridge. Our cave is not an ordinary cave. It is like a tiny house. I ate the steak and went outside. I jumped on top of the cave. Then, I ran and jumped onto a nearby tree. I climbed to the top. I could see Scarlet's house from here. I missed her. I wish I didn't live here. My parents are always pushing me to be evil like them and Deacon. I don't want to kill people. I just steal mannequins and pretend that I killed someone. I wish I had the bravery to tell them that I wanted to leave them. I had an idea just then. I would say I am leaving to get something, and never return. I could make a mannequin look like me and they would think I am dead. I am the only one in the family that can read minds. They can't smell either. I was the special vampire of the family. Every family of vampires has one vampire that has the powers. The rest can only suck blood. Deacon was jealous when he found out. I would leave them tomorrow.

The Next Day

Cole's POV

Today was the day. I had the mannequin in my room. I opened my window, and snuck out. I ran to a random place in the woods, and dropped the fake body on the ground. Then, I ran all the way to Scarlet's house. I looked through her balcony door. She was not there. I opened the door because it was unlocked. I wrote a note saying to look outside. I folded it and placed it on her dresser. I stayed under her balcony until she got home.

Scarlet's POV

I was at a restaurant with my mom. We had BLT's. I ate the whole thing. I went in my room. I found a note on my dresser. I opened it. It read, Look outside. -Cole. I put down the letter and opened my balcony door. I looked outside. Suddenly, Cole jumped up in front of me. He smiled that smile that I love. We sat on my bed. He told me that he ran away from home and why. Then, he asked me if he could live here. With me. I panicked. What if my mom saw him? She doesn't even know about my secret. On the other hand, he is the best thing that has happened to me. He cheered me up when I was down. He made me laugh when I was thinking of dark memories. I decided to let him live with me. I just hoped my mom wouldn't find out.
