I was hurriedly slopping on makeup when I heard my phone ring. I shimmied into a blue sweater and jeans before grabbing my cell.

"Hey, who is this?" I said while zipping up my boots.

"Is this Heather?" I heard a deep male voice say. I stopped mid-step and racked my brain for that voice but came up blank.

"Is this somebody I know?" I questioned. There was a pause before he answered.

"I'm Luke Saunders. I sit behind you in Geometry." I just stopped myself from gasping. It was the gorgeous blonde from the court yard.

I tried my best to calm my voice and sound suave.

"Oh, yes hello, this is Heather. I don't recall giving you my number though so how did you come by it?" I spoke clearly while pacing my room.

"I saw your enrollment papers laid out in the office. You cell phone number was laying right there so I thought I'd call you up and ask a question." He answered smoothly.

My voice almost quavered as I answered "And what was that question?"

A pause. "I was wondering if you would be interested in joining the school student council?" He asked.

I told myself I was fabricating the hope in his voice. I imagined him on the other end of the line. He was probably at his house in an organized room. He was probably wearing something comfortable, like sweatpants or maybe his boxers. I stifled a gasp. Where was my mind wandering?

I had barely
learned his name and I'm already imagining him in his boxers?
I realized that he was waiting for my answer on the line. I hurried to reply.

"When would I have to decide by?" I asked. There you go Heather, express a bit of interest but don't commit to anything.

"Well if you would drop by the teacher conference room tomorrow at lunch then I could explain it all to you." He said. I wanted to ask if we would be alone but in my head it sounded needy.

"Okay I'll come by. So by what time would I be done." He paused " Well if it takes a long time, we could always go grab a bite to eat."

I almost dropped the phone as I hurried to say yes before he took back the invitation.

"Sounds great to me. See you then." He said and hung up. I flopped back on my bed. Was this a date or just a businesslike meeting?

After school that day, I straightened my blouse and knocked on the conference room door. I moment later it was opened by a tan, glorious god.

I'm surprised that I wasn't blinded by his adorable side-smile. He wore a cream colored t-shirt and jeans with sneakers. He didn't look professional to me. So if this wasn't strictly business, than what was it?

He sat opposite me and a long oak table. He asked a few questions about my abilities as a leader and public speaker. He asked about any distractions I might have in my life to keep me from high grades. I said no distractions in particular.

Then came the bomb. "So you don't have a boyfriend?" He asked smoothly.

I felt my eyes widen as I tried to assess his question. "Not in the moment." I blurted.

He failed to stifle a grin "I need to know that you wouldn't be distracted by a boyfriend."

He almost smirked as he handed over a stack of papers and files. "These are the current spots that we have open. If you are interested in any of them, you can call me at this number." He said whilst scribbling numbers on my palm.

He stood and it was obvious that I could leave. I tried to walk gracefully to the door but I instead I tripped over my chair.

I felt warm arms catch me before I hit the floor. I looked up into a sea of blue that I got lost in. We stared into each other's eyes for a long second. His lips parted and I breathed in his minty smell.

We both jumped up and away from each other as someone knocked on the conference room door. I smiled nervously at the library aid who opened the door. She shot questioning glances at us both.

She grabbed a few papers off the printer as we both shuffled out of the room that was beginning to feel hot.
