Claudia's Pov-

"What happened to telling each other when something happened?!!" I yelled at Luke from across the room, he had done nothing except glared at me.

Over the course of a month or so, Luke had been waking up at times due to whispering and crazy stuff happening around him, as have I. We've been sticking through it like champs... Well that's what I've been thinking.

Lately, he has been distant, cold, like nobody was even there when I was talking to him. His eyes have begun to darken, they were never the bright and beautiful blue that had usually popped out when he was happy. They were now a dull, lifeless, bluish-brown tone that never seemed to disappear.

Luke rarely speaks anymore. He only answers after I've repeated myself to him maybe three times.  I've tried to get through to him but I don't know how. I love him so much and seeing him hurt is the exact opposite of what I want for him.

"I thought we were in this together?" My voice shook, my throat was numb from yelling. I felt as if my world had been crumbling around me.

"I... I thought.." My sentence was cut off as Luke began to walk towards me, still not speaking a word. He stopped walking when he was only a foot away from me, I had been backed into a corner with nowhere to run.

"I thought you loved me... What happened to that..?" Luke stood still, as if he didn't want to move or I'd explode.

"Just forget it." I tried pushing him to the side but he pushed me back into the corner and his face was only a few inches from mine.

"Don't you think for one minute that I don't love you. I'm risking my life so I can be with you. I've been dealing with this son of a bitch whispering to me 24/7. He doesn't say half of the things to you as he says to me, alright? You got lucky. How do you think I feel when he starts talking about how he's going to take you from me? He says how he's going to take you and do such horrible, horrible things. Not only does he want to kill you, he wants to do... Other things with you..." He stared at me intently, awaiting the answer from me that I was unable to speak.

"I don't know what to say... " My heart was beating out of my chest and I could only feel pure anxiety and shock coursing through my veins.

"Hey look at me," he tilted my head up so I was staring right at his eyes; which had now turned into a dark blue, no brown was in them at all. "I'm sorry." His voice seemed as if he were full of regret. I now see why he had been so distant and I can't blame him.

He does have it harder.

And I have to give him space when he needs it.

"You know... It's gonna get better." I picked at the vivid red nail polish on my fingernails  from when I had painted them the other day. "We've just gotta carry on."

"Claudia, it's hard... It's like my world just came crashing down before my eyes. As much as I wanna face him I can't." His eyes began to water and he pushed the tears away, obviously not wanting for me to see him cry.

"It's okay to cry Luke, you don't have to hide it."

"I just feel like this whole thing is my fault." He sighed, swiping his hand through his hair.

"Actually it's mine," I laughed, "I was the one who was getting killed... You just followed me."

"Yeah okay..." He snapped

"Well do you want something to eat? I can go hunting or something with my bow... Or would you rather do it yourself?" I suggested, quickly trying to change the topic.

"You hunt..? I didn't know that."

"I mean, I haven't really done it since... Well since my dad died... I'm pretty sure I still have it in me, I can do it."

"Stop that." Luke's head snapped towards his left side.

"Who are you talking to?"  I was still somewhat cornered and I kinda wanted to move but Luke was still standing before me.

"Why are you such a disgusting pig? Don't talk about her like that!" He turned his whole body to face the wall as he spoke. "Claudia go upstairs please, or go with the boys... Please." He pleaded.

As I left the house all I heard were muffled whispers coming inside of that room. After a minute I knew exactly who Luke was talking to and I didn't want to get into the middle of it. If it was important enough that Luke needed me to leave then I usually would, no questions asked.

I knocked on the door and to my surprise, Calum answered with the biggest grin on his face.

"We've been expecting you to come here... Not really for the reasons we like, but hey, at least we get to hang."  He pulled me into him and a huge whiff of his cologne went into my nose- not like I'm complaining. Calum always smelled nice, but if I told him that then I'd sound creepy.

"That's not that creepy of a thing to say..." He looked down at me and I almost screamed.

"How? How did you hear what I was thinking??" The embarrassment took over but it was soon replaced by a new thought popping into my head;

How did Calum break through the barrier?

"All four of us can?" He seemed almost as confused as I was.

"I can't, mate." Ashton yelled from the other room.

"Me either!" Michael joined in.

Ashton walked into the room holding a festive ceramic mug with a Santa Claus painted on the front. I would've laughed if I wasn't concerned with the topic on hand.

"We all had our connections blocked off with her, remember? How are you able to go through?" Ashton asked, placing the mug down on their coffee table.

"I don't know, I just am. I thought you all could still hear her, too!" He scratched his head and sat down on the couch next to Michael.

"I don't get it," Michael started, "how are you still able to read her thoughts when we can't? He doesn't just make mistakes like that, whether it be by accident or on purpose- it's too risky." He placed down the controller to his video game after pausing it.

"Wait guys," I joined in, "what if Calum is like... Special?"

"What do you mean by that?" Ashton asked.

"What if he's stronger than the barrier? Maybe he has a stronger skill in that than the rest of you, that's why you're all cut off."

"Well that's awesome but what if he finds out?" Michael said.

"He won't and I'm sure of it." I added.

"How?" They all said in unison, and soon after scrambled to knock on the wooden table.

"What if we tried to make Calum's power strong enough that he can block him out instead of it being the other way around. He won't be able to talk to me anymore and it might fix some of the current problems we've been having.." I clarified.

"Let's do it."
