Chapter 67
The Lake
Last day was a long one.
We went over to the station to get the clothes Cinna made for us and Effie brought to the District. We had to get it to the house of course, so we made a couple of rides in Jonas truck -which he didn't know how to drive-. So I didn't come back to the Station to get Peeta's things. Instead, I stayed here arranging everything on the basement. When Peeta came back, he and Jonas got what was left downstairs here with me. Peeta thanked his friend and told him he could take the rest of the week off. The job wasn't ready yet, we still had to organize everything , and it took us long enough, but we finally finished it. We finished at midnight or so, and we went to sleep -exhausted both of us- like at 1:00 in the morning.
Today, we woke up very late, but it's okay because we were really tired from yesterday. We already took a shower, and right now we are washing the dishes we used for the breakfast, and we're ready for the day.
"Do you feel like doing particularly anything today?", I ask. Our "vacations", are almost over.
You could say vacations because a few days ago we went to District 11, for my birthday, and now we just have four days left before the opening of Beetee's museum on District 3, and then you could say "vacations", again since we're staying in the best Hotel of District 4 with Annie and the others. I am looking forward to see Annie, she said her baby was suppossed to be born in these days, and I said I would help her. But seeing the others, -all of us in the same place- makes me a little nervous, I have to admit. I know it will bring back memories that I rather keep burried...
But yes, after that, we have to return to Twelve and Peeta has to return to the Bakery. So vacations are over. But I'll try to enjoy our days left.
"I mean, I know this are days we could use to to rest, but that's not necessary", I point.
"I don't know...", Peeta says. "Let's think about it".
We finish with the dishes and picking up the kitchen. Peeta goes to the living room and before I join him, I walk towards the phone and dial Annie's number.
I'm almost sure she told me the date of the baby's birth would be a couple of days ago, but we were still on Eleven so I couldn't call her.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
Then nothing.
I try to call again but the same happens, after the third beep there's nothing but silence.
Confused, I go downstairs with Peeta and sit on the couch beside him.
"Is everything okay?", he asks putting his arm around me.
"Annie didn't answer", I say. "Should I be worried?".
"That's weird", Peeta says.
"She said the baby would be born a couple of days ago", I say.
"Maybe it did. Maybe she's not at her house and she can't pick the phone up... Let's hope everything's okay", Peta says reassuringly.
"I just wish I could talk to her. I said I would be there for her, and now the stupid phone won't help me" I say frustrated.
"You can call her later".
"Yeah, I will", I say. There's a silence after that, but I can't seem to get rid of the worried feeling I have. If the baby was born, she would've called me, right? But if it didn't...
