Chapter 12

Justin's P.O.V

I stood inside, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. One minute they were mad, the next happy happy, then sad. It must be a girl thing 'cause I don't get it. Just as soon as I had finished talking to myself I heard the door open and my Mom walked in. Uh-oh this could be bad. But wait, she didn't look angry. She looked kind of happy but a little drained.

"Oh Justin, you can go outside now. I if you want to," she said as she walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water. As soon as she was done talking, I slid out of my chair leaving my half eaten sandwich and rushed out the door. As I slid down the rail and onto the sand I saw Jay further down the beach; she was pacing and as I approached, I realized she was on the phone. I didn't want to interrupt, and I didn't want to eavesdrop, but my curiosity got the better of me, I sneakily hid behind a tree and listened.

"No, I said no," Then there was a pause and I could tell Jay was feeling kind of scared by the way she was twirling her nose ring.

"Please don't, stay where you are please. I'll do anything!" She begged; she was close to tears. But I still couldn't figure out what and who she was talking to or what they were talking about. I had a sneaking suspicion it was her mom, but I didn't know why.

"Yes, mmhmm, okay, fine," Then she rattled off a number and abruptly hung up. Turning around I knew I'd been caught.

"Justin? What are you doing?" She said with a small giggle and I realized how funny I must have looked crouched behind a tree.

"Well..." I trailed off. She looked at me with a sympathetic smile as she touched my shoulder.

"It's okay I was talking to my mom, but it's all good now," she said smiling as she took my hand and began to walk up the beach. I knew everything wasn't okay but I didn't press any further. We walked down the beach in silence, but it wasn't one of those weird silences. It was a comfortable silence that could be broken at any moment, if we wanted. Every once in a while Jay would bend down and pick up a shell. Most of them she would throw away back onto the sand but a few she would tuck into her pocket.

"Justin," She said stopping to look into my eyes

"Can we go surfing tomorrow?" She gave me her signature puppy dog eyes and a childish smile.

"Please, pretty please." I looked down at her and smiled.

"Okay but you have to give me a kiss," I said with an evil childish grin. She just smiled and pulled my face close and kissed me on the cheek. Then she sent small little butterfly kisses leading to my lips and when she got there she gave me a passionate kiss. As she pulled away she left me breathless, but I quickly recovered. Pulling her into a hug, with her back against my chest I leaned down and whispered in her ear.

"You're such a tease, but you're my tease," I whispered kissing her on the head. With that we slowly made our way down the beach towards her house. I left her with a kiss and a promise that I would pick her up at 9 so she would have time to go for a run before we left.

"Justin, you know if you want to come earlier you can. You can train with me! You don't have to pick me up after." She said as she stood between the door frames holding the screen door open with her foot. I stood there pretending to think about it when I knew the answer, I couldn't keep up with her if I tried, but decided not to admit defeat out loud.

"Well I want to be surprised when I see you run at your meet, so I'll just pick you up at 9 okay?" She just smiled because I knew she could see right through my lie.

"Okay then. But if you ever come, we can go slower," She giggled then gave me a peck on the cheek and closed the door and went inside.

//NEXT DAY//

Jay's P.O.V

"Justin! No! Don't you dare!" I screamed as I stood on the surf board, Justin smiled evilly and went under the water; I had my arms out trying to balance myself as I searched the water for him.

Why did I ever want to try surfing? My thoughts were interrupted by the board being tipped over sending me flying into the water. The water engulfed me and I had to admit that it felt nice against my hot skin. I decided to have a little fun with Justin and I let the water pull me under and held my breath.

Justin's P.O.V

I had picked Jay up at her house that morning just a few minutes past nine. She was waiting in her bathing suit with a towel draped over her shoulder and she smiled at me when she saw me coming from her spot on the beach, I took her hand and led her to the place where I had put our surfboards. Instead of getting lessons because that might make someone notice me I just brought surf boards and I knew how to surf so I figured I could teach Jay to. I pushed out into the water. Once we were about chest deep I told her to stand up and I balanced the board.

" Wow, it's hot out here today!" she said as she pulled her hair into a loose ponytail. Her words gave me an idea but my smile must have been giving it away because she started to scream but it was too late. I dove under the water, grabbed the surf board and pushed it over. I came up in the water in a fit of laughter. Wait, where was Jay? She's probably just tricking me. I thought to myself.

But I waited about 30 seconds more and started to get worried, where is she? Why hadn't she come up? I dove under the water and began searching it when I saw her just a few feet ahead drifting with the water. She looked lifeless. I quickly swam over to her and pulled her to the surface in a panicked frenzy. At the surface, her head flopped back but only for a second, then she sprayed my face with water and started laughing.

"You should have seen your face Justin!" She laughed.

"What you mean this was a joke? Are you sure you're okay?" I asked. I mean this wasn't funny; she scared the living daylights out of me. What did I do to deserve this?

Well you were the one who pushed her in. My conscience berated me. I was about to yell at that stupid thing when Jay said something.

"You know Justin I could use a little mouth to mouth," she whispered with a small smile. She lifted chin up and I felt one of her legs wrap around me, pulling me closer. I took that as my queue and presided to give her mouth to mouth. She wrapped her other leg around me so I was fully supporting us, and ran her hands through my hair.

We spent the rest of the afternoon like that, surfing, but mostly kissing. After we went out for ice cream which pretty much ended the same way. At the end of the night I dropped Jay off at her house just as her phone rang. She looked down at it, frowned then put it back in her pocket. I ignored it and said goodnight to her. I went back to my house, hoping this was what it was going to be like every day this summer. Because if so I could get used to making out and have fun with Jay it was just like old times only different. Better. Because now she was my Jay. Not just Jay.
