"Buenas tardes, clase. Por favor, tenga a cabo su tarea para que podamos corregirlo."
"Ah fuck, I forgot to do it!"
"Cuida tu lenguaje, Owen!"
"Lo sentimos..."
Spanish. My other subject that I'm actually great at.
Luckily, Avery and Owen are in my class, and apparently, my homeroommate, Farrah, is too.
"Avery, ¿le gustaría responder a la primera pregunta en voz alta para nosotros?" says my Spanish teacher, Señora Reyes.
"Si, cierto." replies Avery.
"Bueno." says Señora Reyes.
In AP Spanish, you have to answer everything in Spanish like you're already fluent in it. It's pretty annoying as hell, but it is AP Spanish.
"Wow, I just guessed on the first question and I got it right." says Avery, happily.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah." she says, grinning.
"You shouldn't guess, Avery. It's AP Spanish, you have to try hard." says Farrah.
"Wow, I never knew that." says Avery, sarcastically.
"No se permite hablar por favor." snaps Señora Reyes.
"Lo sentimos." apologizes Avery.
Farrah gives her a snooty smile as Avery gives her an evil look.
"Don't talk to the bitch, it's better off like that." Avery whispers to me.
"You don't like her?" I whispered back.
"Don't like her? Shay, I hate her. Hate. Her." she says.
"Why? She's nice." I said.
Avery gasps and says, "Nice? No she's not. She's the bitchiest girl I've ever met."
"She's nice to me. She's in my homeroom." I said.
"If I were you, I wouldn't talk to her. When I first met her, she was nice. But she turned into a bitch days after." she says "It's called starting rumors about me. Ugh.".
"Um, okay." I said, unsure what to do.
When we finished correcting the homework and Señora Reyes passed out our project rubrics, we all immediately chose our groups and started working right after.
"Shay, do you want to work with us?" asks Farrah, smiling at me.
"Um, Shay's gonna work with me, right Shay?" says Avery.
"Well, her rubric doesn't say who's she's working with yet so, she can work with me. I mean, it doesn't say your name, does it?" says Farrah.
"How about, working with me, Shay?" asks Owen, breaking up the mini-fight.
"Um...okay?" I said, confused.
"Owen, that's not fair." says Avery.
"No it's not, I just invited her like a normal person would. Not fighting over her." he says.
Farrah gives Avery one last evil glare and walks off.
"Keep glaring, bitch." I heard Avery mutter out.
"Bueno clase, me voy a perder el concurso de ayer. Ellos eran muy buenos a excepción de un par de personas." says Señora Reyes.
"Aw, crap. I probably did terrible. I didn't study." says Owen.
"You never study." says Avery.
"That's true." he says.
"Sometimes, I wonder why you're in AP Spanish." she says.
Señora Reyes comes over to Owen and Avery and hands them their graded quizzes.
"Avery, gran trabajo en la prueba. As for Owen...tratar de estudiar más." she says.
Avery smiles to herself as Señora Reyes walks away with other quizzes that needed to be handed out.
"A 97! Hell yeah!" says Avery, cheerfully.
"Great job." I complimented, smiling.
"Thanks." she says. She looks over to Owen and asks him, "So, what did you get?"
"Um...100." he says.
"That is such a lie." she says.
She snatches the quiz off of Owen's hand and stares at it.
Her eyes widen and says, "A 17?"
"Yeah..." he softly said.
"Is that even possible?" I asked.
"Apparently, for Owen." she replies.
"Hey, I'm not good at vocab okay?" he says.
"Vocab's the easiest part of Spanish, how's it hard?" she says.
"It just is." he says and shrugs.
"Want me to tutor you?" I asked him.
He looks at me and smiles, "Really?"
"Sure, why not?" I said, smiling back.
"Great, do you think you can teach me during lunch, sometimes?" he asks.
"Sure." I said.
"Looks like you got yourself a tutor, Owen." says Avery.
"Yup." he says, smiling.
