Playlist: Cant Save Myself by As It Is

Carl's POV

I slid my arms underneath her and scooped her up. My dad walked over to pick up the knife on the ground covered in her blood. As I began to quickly walk back to the prison her blood covered arms and bruised legs dangled bellow her chest. 'Please be okay' is all I could think in my head.

5 minutes later

The back side of the prison came into sight and that only made me run faster. The group and I entered the small door connected to the fence. We had to walk around to the front of the prison in order to enter because the back doors had been locked.

As we entered the front door connected to the dining room I saw Liz going to wherever from wherever, frankly, I didn't give a shit. I did look over at her to see her jaw lowered and her eyes following Lai's body.

I ran as fast as I could to the infirmary and laid her down on the bed. I held her hand as she gave back no sign of acknowledgement. Daryl had gone to get Hershel from his room and care for Lainie.

I sat down in a plastic chair that I had pulled up to right next to the bed. I looked over to see Hershel enter the room and then come to examine her arm.

"She has definitely bled a lot but isn't dead from it." He said giving me and everyone else in the room reassurance about her state of health.

"But," Hershel said, making me sit up in my seat. "She will need to have blood donated to her and there is always the possibility that she has gone into a coma."

I felt a lump in my throat as I spoke to Hershel which was difficult through the lump.

"A... A coma? Like she will be asleep?" I asked extremely worried.

"Yes..." Hershel said still looking at the cuts on her wrist. "In the mean time, she will need a blood transplant." He finished. "Do you know what blood type she is?" Hershel asked me.

"Yes, she's the same as me. A positive." I answered him.

"Okay then son, we need to get you hooked up to give blood." He said pulling a metal pipe on wheels out from a corner with a bag and a pipe connected to it. He pulled the machine over to me and placed a small needle that was connected to the pipe into my arm right under the crease on the inside of my elbow.

After the bag was full he pulled the machine over to Lainie and stuck the needle into her arm and began to slowly squeeze the bag containing my blood.

"Carl, come on. We need to talk." I looked over to see my dad in the doorway of the infirmary. I stood up and walked with him towards his room.

"Has she ever done anything like this since she's been here?" He asked, putting extra emphasis on anything.

"No," I responded, reluctant to tell the rest. "But when she got here she did have cuts across her wrist already. There was seven of them..." I concluded, trailing off my last sentence.

"How do you know this?" He asked me, still looking concerned.

"I could see them when she laid down next to me when we sleep." I said, shrugging my shoulders. He responded with a simple okay. I walked back to mine and Lai's cell and laid down on the bed where Lainie used to lay next to me.

I racked my brain for thoughts of actions that could have made Lai become this way. I couldn't find any and then fell asleep, thinking of nothing but her.

I woke up the next morning from my dad waking me up, I had slept through my watch alarm. The morning and afternoon was a slow trudge until it finally got to the late afternoon after I ate dinner and was finally able to go and see Lai.

Begin song (ready slowly for the events/lyrics to match up)

I walked to her bed in he infirmary and saw her there laying in the bed, she hasn't moved a bit. I sat down in the seat that had been moved to rest beside her bed. I reached to the bed and took her hand into mine.

"Lai," I said, my voice slightly cracking to see her like this. "Please wake up."

A tear fell from my eye and dropped down into the inside of my wrist. The same location that her self inflicted cuts ended on her arm. I got up and walked myself back to our room and fell asleep, missing her warmth next to my body.

I woke up agin by my dad at 8:00 am.

"I got it!" I yelled as he forced me to sit up in my bed, making sure I was awake. I say up and took a deep breath as I trudged out of bed and down to the dining room. I had a bad feeling all day about the possibility that Lainie won't wake up, it's only been three days but I was already hating myself over something that wasn't even my fault, or was it?

End song

I again racked my brain, trying to think of what I had done to hurt her so much but no thoughts came into mind. I looked down and checked my watch, 7:49 pm. I had no more chores so I decided to walk down to visit Lai in the infirmary. I sat down in the same plastic chair located next her bed.

I reached up and took her hand into mine, squeezing it tightly. I felt her hand twitch slightly.

"L... Lainie?" I said, shocked at the movement even though I wasn't sure if she had actually moved or if it was just me beginning to go crazy. I looked up at her beautiful face and saw her eyes gently twitching under her eyelids. Her eyes slowly opening as I stood up, the chair taking an abrupt tumble behind me.

"Lainie!" I screamed as she woke up on the infirmary bed, pure excitement in my voice. My dad came into the room and walked over to Lainie who had just sat up on the bed. She looked extremely confused as to what is happening.

"Are you okay?" I asked as I took her hand into mine and rubbed her palm with my thumb. I was still overflowing with happiness.

"Yeah, I'm fine Carl. But why am I in the infirmary and why are you so excited?" She said as she furred her brow out of confusion. She didn't remember any of it.

Crazy chapter I know!! Why doesn't Lai remember anything????

Bye loves,
