Rick's POV

I woke up to the sound of my alarm on my watch going off. Rising out of my bed, I turned off the alarm, causing the noise to cease. I got dressed and made my rounds through the prison, waking up all the people in our giant group. I finally finished and made my way to Roger's cell.

"Wake up." I demanded through the metal bars that held him prisoner. He groaned and sat up in his bed.

"You will not be doing and chores with the others in the group out of fear that you will attempt to harm them. Instead, you will spend your day cleaning the separate Blocks." I informed him, still standing in place on the other side of the door. "There will be group members who are trusted by me that will be guarding you at all times." I finished. Sliding a piece of paper through the bars to him. The paper read:

8:20-9:30 - clean A Block
•9:40-10:50 - clean B Block
•11:00-12:00 - clean bathrooms
12:10-12:45 - lunch
•12:55-1:55 - free period
•2:05-3:15 - clean C Block
•3:20-4:30 - clean D Block
•4:40-5:00 - free period
•5:10-5:45 - dinner

I walked away from his room and headed towards the dining area where Carol, Beth, and Lainie stood serving food to the people who had already come to breakfast. I sat down at a table with three chairs and was soon joined by Michonne and Daryl.

"What did you do about the prisoner?" Michonne asked, sitting down to my right. "He's going to spend his time everyday cleaning all of the prison until, and if, he becomes more trustworthy." I informed her Daryl who had already been sitting down by me.

"I need you two to supervise him as he does his work so that is the job that y'all two have until further notice." I informed them. Neither of them had much to say on the subject so I walked over to Carl who had been eating breakfast with Lainie since she had finished serving food.

"Carl," I said, grabbing his attention as his eyes shot over to mine. "What is it?" He asked, sitting his fork down. "I need to talk to you come here for a minute." I said to him, causing him to stand up and walk over to me.

Lainie's POV

"What was that about?" I asked Carl as he sat back down across from me, looking slightly pissed off.

"Well, since we can't trust Roger because a, he's been stealing food from us and b, he killed his wife he has to have people supervise him as he does his job which is to clean the whole prison. I now have to be one of those people." He explained to me as I furred my brow.

"But why do you seem mad about that?" I asked him, confused as to why that was a bad thing.

"Because I now have to spend all day looking after a murderer." Carl said, getting up to throw his plate away. "Oh," I said, getting up to do the same and heading back to our room before I had to go to kitchen duty which was now my full-time chore.

"Well, on the bright side, everything is going back to normal here kinda. We're back to doing our chores, they may be different but ehh. Hopefully there will be no more surprises today." I laughed as we went our separate ways for chores, kissing each other good bye.

Two hours later.

"Let's start making lunch." Beth smiled, taking cans of corn from the shelves and about 10 potatoes from a large bucket of them from the corner. "All you need to do is put the cans of corn into that big pot over there," she said, pointing to a large metal pot in a cabinet. "And put it over a fire. There's some firewood in the closet and lighters not to that big pot." She informed me.

"And please grab me some wood when you're over there, thank you." She said, filling up a smaller pot with water and placing the potatoes in it. She grabbed a cinder block and sat it on the ground to that the two holes were facing the ceiling. I handed her the wood and she placed some of it into both the holes and then slid it over to me. "Light that wood on fire and put the pot over it, make sure you don't completely cover the holes or else bad things will happen." She laughed lighting the thick twigs she had placed inside her cinder block on fire and putting her pot of potatoes and water on fire, leaving small gaps open above the holes of the cinder block.

30 minutes later.

"And there you have it," Beth began. "corn and mashed potatoes." She laughed as we carried the pots put to the dining area and placed them on a table. "Carol should be here any minute to help us serve the food since her break period ends in a couple minutes." She informed me and we removed styrofoam plates and plastic spoons from a cupboard and sat them down behind the pots.

"Let's serve up some food." Carol said as she walked behind the table and joined us as people began to trickle into the food line.

10 hours later.

I laid down on the bottom bunk next to Carl who's arms were wrapped around me. "Luckily, we had no surprises in the prison today." I said as I stared upwards at the bottom of the top bunk. "How was watching Roger?" I asked, laughing as Carl let out and exaggerated sigh.

"God, he's so stubborn and would not stop giving me this stupid death stare all damn day." He said to me as I thought of something.

"You know how he has to serve his entire sentence and will probably never be trustworthy enough for him to work without being supervised." I asked Carl who gave a simple "yeah".

"Well, do you know how long his sentence is?" I asked him. "No." Carl said flatly.

"It's 68 years." I informed him as he let out a humongous sigh, turned onto his side, and fell asleep.
