Lainie's POV (the next morning)
The sound of Carl's watch alarm woke me up as it had done tens, almost hundreds, of times before. Once he hit a button which causing the tinging to stop, I rose out if bed and stepped over to the desk where my clothes were located.
"Good morning." Carl yawned as he stretched and sat up in the bed. "Good morning," I replied, slipping on my last shoe and walking out to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
"Do you want to go to breakfast early so we can go ahead and start eating?" Carl asked once I came back into the room. I agreed and we began our walk down the hallway to the dining room.
"Good morning, Beth." I smiled as I saw her serving food to a few other early people. "I still have the same schedule for kitchen duty right?" I asked her as she put a ladle full of oatmeal into a bowl and handed it to me. She nodded her head and gave a light smile so I went I go sit down at one of the tables.
(After breakfast)
Me and Carl both had watch duty first thing in the morning in the same tower. We stood in the large metal box with guns in our hands, scanning the surroundings. Through the woods I began to be able to see some type of vehicles coming closer to us. I then saw that there was three of them, one being much larger than the others.
One they emerged from the trees it became visible that there was two trucks and a large tank. I gave Carl a worried look and turned around to go down the ladder but Daryl was already coming up it.
"Daryl, what's happening?" I asked him, hearing the worry in my voice as I spoke.
"Kids, we have a war coming." He said at the same moment a tall man with short brown hair emerged from the tank with an eyepatch on.
"Now, let's have ourselves a little talk." The man with the eye patch smirked as he stood up and completely exited the tank.
"Oh shit," Carl began, turning around to look at me. "That's the governor."
