Rick's POV

"This here is Roger Smiket. I arrested him a couple weeks before the apocalypse for killing his wife. He also just so happens to be Derek's dad." I said to the group, trailing my eyes back and forth between Daryl, Michonne, and Carl who seemed as if he were becoming infuriated. Lainie walked out from behind Carl and walked  over to stand beside Roger.

"Derek," Carl said, walking up towards Roger. "That sonnova bitch who abused Lainie for weeks and then came into our safe house and tried to kill her." Carl spat at him, walking closer to him with every word. Anger growing in his voice with every word.

"Abused?" Roger said, his eyes bulging and a nasty smile growing on his face until he started laughing.

"Don't you laugh at that you filthy piece of shit!" Carl yelled, shoving the heel of his boot into Mr.Smiket's gut as the word shit left his mouth. Roger grasped his stomach and curled into a ball on the floor and let out a slight groan of pain. I would've stopped Carl by now but I want to see how he can handle bad situations. The others in the room didn't try to stop Carl, them knowing that I am his father and I should be the one to take control of his actions in times like this.

"Huh, abused. I guess he really did take after his dad's traits." Roger said, pulling himself back up from the ground with his arms and resting himself against the door again. Carl must've been fed up with knowing about how Roger was telling us about how he abused his wife so Carl walked back up to him and punched him right in the jaw. Spitting out blood, Roger fought back and heeled him under the kneecap, causing Carl to stumble backwards. It was now time to step in.

"Okay, okay. Stop this behavior and let's find a solution to the problem. What are we going to do with Roger?" I said pulling back Carl by his arm.

"We kill him." Carl said, pulling out a gun from his holster. "Carl!" I yelled, taking the gun from his hand. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" I screamed at him, throwing the gun on the ground. Big mistake. Roger slid the gun towards him by grasping onto the gun with his heel. Picking up the gun, he stood up and pointed it to Carl's head. Lainie slid from beside Roger to behind him and pulled out the knife she had and put it up to Roger's neck.

"Drop the gun." She whispered into his ear, pushing the blade closer to his skin as he began to lower the gun. She reached in front of him and grabbed the gun, then handing it back to Carl. "I think we should keep him held as a prisoner. Let him serve the rest of his time until he dies or gets bitten." Lainie suggested, putting her knife away and stepping over towards me.

"I like that idea." I said, looking at her and at Mr.Smiket. "We need to have him away from the nursery and the kids. He needs to be slightly isolated. It's for the safety of the group."

"Good idea." Michonne pitched in. "There's an empty room in B Block since Bryan left to go find his mom last week. I can lead him there right now if you want but I think we should cuff him for the time being." She offered.

"So Rick, me and Michonne lead him to his room and cuff him to the bedpost. There's some leftover locks from when this was a real prison that we can use to lock him in his cell. How does that sound?" Daryl asked, going to cuff Roger up with a pair of handcuffs he had strapped to a belt loop on his jeans.

"Sure, we'll sort our more details tomorrow." I said to Daryl and Michonne as they walked out of the kitchen door with Roger tight in Daryl's grasp. "Carl and Lainie, go back to sleep. Y'all don't need to be involved in this." I said to Lainie and Carl in a stern voice.

"Whatever," Carl said as he and Lainie walked out of the main kitchen door, their fingers intertwined with one another's.

Carl's POV

"Why did you start beating up Roger?" Lainie asked, her face laying on my chest as we laid down against each other on my bed.

"Are you serious?" I whisper yelled at her, sitting up on the bed, lifting her body off of mine in the process. "He killed his wife and influenced Derek to hurt you!" I now almost yelled, feeling my fists clench as I spoke.

"I...I'm sorry. Ple...please don't..." Lainie trailed off, pushing herself against the wall that lay flat against the bed. "Lainie...I...." I began to say as I reached out and put my hand on her shoulder. As I did, she flinched back slightly. "I'm gonna sleep on my bed tonight." She murmured as she slid off the bed, avoiding me as much as possible and going up the ladder to sleep on her bed which she hadn't done in weeks.

15 minutes later

I tried to fall asleep by myself in my bed but I couldn't do it. I needed to fall asleep next to Lainie to make sure she was okay. I couldn't have the uncertainty that she might run away again and me yelling at her hadn't made matters any better. I sat up from the bottom bed and walked around to the ladder and began to crawl up it. Peering overtop of Lainie's bed, I saw that she hadn't fallen asleep either but instead she lay on her bed twiddling her thumbs in front of her stomach.

I didn't say a word but instead crawled up so lay down beside her, stomach to stomach, and wrapped my arms around her as we fell asleep with a murderer in the same building as us. But hasn't it always been like that ever since we even got here? We had been living with a murderer the whole time and not even knowing it.

Nuffin' to say this time sooooooo

Bye loves,
Macy <3
