she quickly glanced down at her phone and upon seeing the text, she blushed.

her mom noticed the strange behavior

"Ella, are you alright?" she questioned

ella's head shot up, "totally," she smiled.

her mom nodded, still suspicious. ella, not caring, went back to her phone as her fingers swiftly moved across the keyboard. her mom lost care of the subject and focused back to driving ella to school. once they arrived the car stopped to a sudden halt.

ella's body jerked back to the rhythm and crashed back to her seat.

"Sorry, honey," her mom looked at ella, concerned.

ella, shifted her eyes away, "i'm fine." she jumped out and went to the back to grab her grey backpack.

her mom's gaze followed her across the school yard and ella shifted her bag to her right shoulder from her left as if uncomfortable. her mom's gaze then shifted down.

ella moved quickly, in a fast pace, to reach her locker. she opened it and shoved her books in the locker. she took the books for her first class out and put her bag on the hooks of her homeroom class. she then made a beeline to her desk.

she looked ahead of her at the boy's desk and gave him a small smile. she quickly shifted her eyes down at her book and sighed.

- 135 minutes later -

the bell rang for math and she jumped out of her seat. ella hastily picked up her books and left the classroom. when she arrived at her locker she was greeted by her best friend, melanie. she greeted melanie with a sweet smile and shoved her fallen apart math book into her disordered locker. melanie held out her arm and ella hooked her arm with melanie's. they both started walking to the thunderous and crowded lunch room.

melanie sat at their table while ella slipped into the line to order for the both of them. once the food was paid for, ella delivered it to the very empty table and presented melanie with her lunch.

"Thanks," melanie smiled, her mouth filled with food.

ella scrunched her nose, "oh my god, stop."

melanie laughed, food still in her mouth. ella made a disgusted face and stuck her tongue out at melanie. she laughed and ella laughed along.

"So, I saw you making googly eyes with that Seth kid in homeroom." melanie teased.

ella held her hands up in defense, "hey! it was one time! and it was only a smile."

melanie rolled her eyes, "right," she said, holding the 'i'

ella just laughed. she looked around the room and her eyes landed on the same boy she saw in homeroom.

it was seth.

ella ducked her head and whispered, "at your 6 o'clock."

melanie quickly turned around and out of the corner of ella's eye she saw melanie widen her eyes.

ella's eyebrow lifted.

melanie sighed, "he's coming."

ella's eyes widened. they both quickly pretended to be engrossed in their food, but seth sat down with them anyway.

"Hey!" he waved.

ella smiled, "uh, hi."

he took a bite of his pizza, "what's up?"

melanie took ella's wrist in case she said anything stupid, "we're good. you?"

at the same time melanie took ella's wrist. ella winced. upon realizing this, melanie dropped ella's hand and whispered a quick sorry. seth looked at the both of them, weirdly, and just kept eating. ella and melanie looked at each other questioningly.

seth laughed awkwardly, "i'm good."

ella nodded, "cool."

every day it started like this, class, an awkward lunch encounter, and they all acted like best friends for the rest of the day. it never changed. seth and ella soon grew closer and closer, but things started changing.
