you & i [ON HOLD]

in the beginning - seth

"hey, why do you keep looking at your phone? is there someone i should know about?" seth's dad interrogated him.

"nah." seth responded nonchalantly, "just some guys."

"that's what they all say." his dad murmurs under his breath.

seth's gaze moved from his phone to his dad faster than you can read this sentence. feeling the glare, his dad looked back at him, defensively.

"What?" he asked.

seth rolled his eyes, "nevermind."

seth's dad had stopped the car for seth to get out. seth quickly grabbed his bag and slammed the door behind him. he jogged to his locker and neatly piled his things into the small, metal space and then took put the books he needed. he shut his locker and turned to homeroom and hung his bag on the cold, metal hook, making sure it was right next to ella's. he took his seat and his eyes met with ella's. she smiled, but once he smiled back, she was already reading her book. he sighed.

the bell rang for math and he made a beeline for his friend, garrett and waved, "hey."

garrett nodded, "hey dude."

they both started for their lockers. garrett kept staring at seth and soon he started to notice.

"What?" seth questioned.

garrett shrugged, "I don't know, I just kept seeing you stare at Ella."

seth looked down, embarrased. garret bumped his shoulder with seth, "you like her!" he teased.

seth shook his head and opened his locker. he grabbed his math book and they walked to class.

- 135 minutes later -

the bell rang for lunch. he grabbed his history books and placed them into his clean locker. he closed the cold locker and walked to the lunch room. garrett met up with him, but had to catch up with his counselor. he was alone. he looked around and his eyes landed on another pair of eyes. melanie. he walked towards them and he say them start eating rapidly. he placed his lunch tray next to ella's and took a seat.

"Hey!" he waved.

ella smiled, "uh, hi." he noticed her small dimples.

he looked down at the pizza in his hands and took a bite of it, "what's up?"

melanie suddenly grabbed ella's pale arm, "we're good. you?"

ella winced and melanie let out a small gasp and apologized. i looked awkwardly at them and kept eating. they both gave me a weird look.

i awkwardly laughed, "i'm good."

ella nodded, "cool."

every day it started like this, class, an awkward lunch encounter, and they all acted like best friends for the rest of the day. it never changed. seth and ella soon grew closer and closer, but things started changing.
