song of the chapter: end of the day// one direction
It was Day 2 of The School Year of Horror. Today, I was going to change everything around. I was going to find some friends today and make sure people knew that I could have friends. If Jean tried to talk to me, I was going to have to tell her the truth. My ultimate plan was to ignore her, but that would be wrong and being a bully.
I quickly got dressed in my outfit for the day. I put on teal shorts and a black shirt. It was a little big on me, which was something I never thought I'd hear myself say. I walked from my room after getting dressed to the kitchen, where my mom had biscuits laying out for me. She already went off to work.
"David! I get the last biscuit!" I called out to him. The lazy bum was probably still sleeping. I didn't know how his girlfriend still liked him. It was a miracle they didn't break up.
"Oh, go ahead. Take it. Just like Juliana did when she broke up with me last night. So yeah, take my heart in that biscuit away from me like she took my heart away from her."
"You're making no sense," I told him as I bit down into a biscuit.
"Screw it. Screw it all. We broke up. Now you don't have to be made fun of." David collapsed in his chair, crying hysterically.
"Oh wow, I'm so sorry. It's not like you guys saw each other at least once a month every year. You guys saw each other twice last year. Don't tell me I'm wrong."
All David did was cry even harder. I passed him the other biscuit, but he picked it up and threw it all the wall.
"You wasted it!" I yelled at him. "You wasted the entire thing!"
"Oh shut up Fatty. It's not like you didn't have enough food in your lifetime anyways." Okay, just because he broke up with Juliana didn't mean he had to take it out on me.
"Bye David. I gotta go to school. Try not to kill yourself moping over Jule." I picked up my bookbag waiting next to the table and stomped out of the house. I didn't care about him. That big jerk!
The bus was supposed to pick me up at the end of my street. I walked down, but as I was walking down, I bumped into my two favorite people. Blondie and Ombré.
"Oh my gosh! It's McKenna!" Ombré sneered at me. "Do you remember my name, McKenna? Because I obviously remember yours."
"Go away," I muttered to myself. But they just kept following me. I tried to ignore them, but the two older girls just kept barking harsh things at me.
"Are you going to try to make friends with someone? Or are you still going to be friends with the Smokers? Or are you just going to be a loner forever?" Blondie high fived her friend as they continued to walk behind me.
I didn't talk to them. Not on the bus, not walking into the building, nothing. When I got into the school, I scoped my options of friends. A group of six girls stood off to one corner, talking to each other and laughing a lot. Maybe I could go over to them and start a conversation.
I stood up a little straighter and walked over to them. One of the girls noticed and stopped telling her story to her friends. "Hey," she said, like she was unsure of herself.
"Hi, I'm McKenna Jones. I'm new here. I don't have anybody to talk to, so I was wondering if I could stand with you guys and talk? I don't want to seem like a loner."
Way to go, McKenna!
Way to be awkward!
"Oh sure! My name is Tayah." Tayah had brown hair with blonde highlights. She was also tan, but not too tan. I smiled at her. She seemed nice.
"I'm Aislinn!" The next girl said. She was tall, but not too tall. She had brown, almost black, hair that fell to just below her shoulders. She was kind of tan, but not as tan as Tayah. She had freckles dotting her skin.
"Hello! I'm Annika!" The girl next to Aislinn said. She was tall, but not the tallest of the group. She was extremely pasty and had many freckles all over her body. Her hair was wavy. Hair goals.
"And I'm Claire," said the girl next to Annika. She had blonde hair that was extremely thick. It looked like it was straight need to many times. She was tan, but you could barely tell it was there. She had freckles dotting her nose. Freckle goals.
"I'm Liv. My real name is Olivia, but I hate it!" The tallest girl of the group said. She towered over everyone. She had rich blonde hair that was wavy and really pretty. She had blue eyes that were really striking. She was also tan. Like, extremely tan.
The last girl, the one who said "hey" to me, smiled. "I'm Madeline. I totally get you, what its like being new. I just moved here in seventh grade." She had perfectly clear skin. Her hair went down just past her shoulders and it was perfectly straight. But honestly, she was skin goals.
They were all perfect in their own way. I immediately felt insecure and tried to look away. My skin was blotchy, my hair a mess, me weight being extremely heavy.
"Well, we are glad you are here, McKenna!" Claire said. "Not a lot of people talk to us. I mean, we aren't total loners, or bullies, but no one thinks that we are... Cool. I guess you could say we are kind of like wallflowers? But we are all popular in our own way! Liv over here is the social bug. She plays every sport known to mankind. Tayah has so many boys wrapped around her finger. Annika is friends with the Losers of the school, as the Pops call them. The Pops are the Populars. We hate them. Madeline is friends with the outside circle of the Pops. They are nice people. They don't bully. We like them. Aislinn doesn't really have any friends here, but she's friends with people from our rival school. She goes to one of their parties at least once a month. And then there's me. I cheerlead, so I'm pretty popular among the basketball team. So that's us in a nutshell."
I stared at her. She just gave me so much information in a short amount of time. I blinked once and nodded. I was kind of confused.
Then, the crowd started moving forward. Time to tackle school.

Why I chose End of the Day: because it says "all I know at the end of the day, is that you want what you want..." And McKenna wanted friends. She wanted what she wanted. Make sense? Plus End of the Day is bomb af and I love it.
But yay, Ken has friends! If you vote and comment it would be greeeeeatly appreciated! Byeeeeee!
