song of the chapter: no control// one direction

It was Friday. Friday was the day of the week that my party was being held. I got on my bus, waving bye to Tayah. "See you tonight, T!" I called out to her, finding a seat on the bus.

I sat next to someone I hardly knew. I don't think she was in my grade or anything. She looked at me and rolled her eyes, scooting a little farther away from me into the seat. I wanted to say something to her, like, "What's the matter? My good looks scare you away?" But that would be mean and really wrong.

I went on to my text messages and saw I had a text from Stuart. It was nothing, just a little reminder about the party tonight.

Sighing, I shut my phone off and stared out the window as the same girl. The trees brushed past us as we pulled into my street.

I got off at the first stop on my street and walked into my house. David was still sitting on the couch where I saw him last. He was on his laptop, trying desperately to find a job. Or that's what he told me. I think he is on Match or something, but that was none of my business.

"Hey Davey," I said, happy about tonight. "Do I look fat? Oh, good, that's what I was going for. Listen, I have a party tonight and I don't want you saying anything about my looks. You hear me?"

"Mhm," he replied, still looking through Match. My parents were out of town on business. It was technically in the state capital fifty minutes away, but they had to be there really early to really late at night. It was just me and my brother.

"Okay, bye!" I walked to my room and shut the door, taking a seat at my vanity.

"Look at you," I whispered to myself. "You're pathetic little piece of shit. But don't worry, you're chubby cheeks and round stomach will be slimmed away by a loose black maxi dress and nothing a little contouring can't fix!"

I grabbed my dress that was hanging up on my closet and brought it into my bathroom. I hopped in the shower and washed myself off, making sure I smelled nice. Then, I got in my black dress, taking a look at myself in the mirror.

"Okay, you look awful, but you have to go with it," I muttered to myself. I looked like Annastasia's soul threw up all over me.

I dried my hair with a blow drier and proceeded out to my vanity. I sat down and took out my curling wand. Usually, my mom would do this all for me, but then again, if she was here, I wouldn't be going to a party tonight.

I finished curling my hair and pulled two of my bangs back. I wanted to be ready before 9:30 so I could practice being cool.

Next, I put on my makeup. I did the usual foundation and concealer, but not a lot. I mainly focused on contouring, something I was surprisingly good at.

After that, I applied some of my Naked eyeshadow, winged eyeliner, and mascara. I then put on some EOSS and I was all set. I wanted to impress people tonight. Actually, I wanted to become cool and popular. Yeah. That's what I want.

"Thanks for driving me," I told my brother as I got out of his car. The clock flashed 9:29.

"No problemo. And listen, it'll probably end up as a sleepover with you knocked out on the couch, so, uh, just call me. Tell me you're okay." He winced at the last line.
