Zayn’s POV
“I don’t know. What’s your offer?” I asked, shaking in fear. I had a very strong idea of the offer.
“We need you to be a spy of sorts. Get all their information secretly, and report back to us. I can’t tell you why we need the information; just know it may keep you and your little friends safe.” Tom said wickedly. It didn’t make sense on why he would need a private investigator on a few teenagers, but the job offer didn’t sound very bad.
I mean we used to work for HIM, he was OUR dealer, until bullshit happened... We weren't selling that much, well we did find another dealer, but that was our secret.....
“Alright,” I said with a deep, shuddering breath. “I’ll do it.”
“Excellent, Zayn. Now go on to Perrie; she’ll give you information on when to meet with me and what to do. She’s also a private investigator, hired for you guys, but we deemed it better to have another person closer to the group.” Tom said, shooing me out of the van.
I stepped out, closing the doors and seeing Perrie’s smiling face leaning against the van. “How’d it go?” she asked, joining me by my side. I looked at her, for the first time aware we weren’t really together. I was just another part of her job.
“Well, it looks like we work together now,” I said warily.
“Great,” she said with a huge smile plastered on her face. She was so gorgeous.
“So, what do we do now?” I asked blandly.
“Whatever we want, I guess. Do you want to stay here at the party or go…?”
“I don’t care; I might stay if they let me. You can go home if you want; you don’t need to babysit me.” I probably snapped at her more than I meant to, it’s just because of her fake relationship, I lost my friends and I betray their trust with a job. Who knows what Tom might have done if I had said no.
“I’m not babysitting you, Zayn. We’re together again, so I figured you’d want to keep me by your side.” She stated simply.
“Oh, we’re in a relationship again? Who am I kidding with again? It was never real, and we both know it. I was just a part of your job, and now you got what you wanted. Cut the shit, we don’t have to pretend anymore!” I’ve been through utter hell tonight, and was not in the mood to argue, yet she just pushed it.
“That’s what you think?” she said with venom dripping from each word.
“No, Zayn, I worked at Starbucks when we went out the first time. Remember? Tom found me after our first date, it offered good pay and I needed it! I knew it wouldn’t affect us, or so I thought…” she mumbled the last part, finally accepting the relationship was borderline wrecked. And it would have been too, if I hadn’t done what I did next.
“I’m sorry, babe. I didn’t realize, things are just kind of heavy now, yeah? I still like you as much as I did the very first day.” I whispered, kissing her softly.
"You did know how to put up with me this way", she said smiling again.
"Well, so we're co-partners and lovers, eh?", I asked jokingly.
