Christian

Slowly my eyes drift open and look down at Tess sleeping soundly against my side. Are legs are tangled and I have my arm around her waist from behind her. I guess we're spooning.

I must have fallen asleep last night before Tessa did. I am going to take it as a good sign that she didn't wake me up and kick me out.

Gosh she is so cute when she sleeps. I wouldn't mind waking to her for the rest of my life.

Zach used to always make fun of me. Saying how unmanly I sound sometimes when I talked about her. I would always tell him that she was it for me. She was 'the one' and that I would never love anyone on this planet more than Tess.

He used to laugh at me then too, but I told him," One day man you're going to meet a girl, and she will change your life. She will make you want to be a better person. You will want to be with her as much as you can, and when you aren't together you will want to know what she is doing. You will do something that reminds you of her and wish she was there with you. When you can't talk to her you will miss her even more. You'll do everything you can to make her smile, and will hate it when she cries. When you love a girl her pain becomes yours, and you will do everything in your power to help her. And when you meet that girl Zach, you're going to think 'man Christian knew what the heck he was talking about'.

After that Zach made some joke and we laughed because guys don't do deep conversations about girls, but I think he got what I was saying because he never made fun of me and Tess again.

A buzzing noise shakes me from my flashback, and I turn to see Tess's phone going off on the dresser. As quietly as I can I reach over and see that Taylor is calling her.

I press the answer button and whisper,"Hello?"

"Hey Christian is that you? Wait why are we whispering?"

"Yeah Tay it's Christian. I'm whispering because Tess is asleep and I don't want to wake her. What's up?"

"Oh Tess texted me last night saying she wanted to go to lunch with me and Annilese? Me and her already talked we just need to confirm it with Tess."

I looked over at the time and saw that it was 10 am. We have to up soon anyway so I say,"Yeah I will wake her up and have her call you back. Bye Taylor."

"Bye Christian!"

When I clicked then end button I looked down to a half awake Tess.

"Who was that?" She mumbled.

"Good morning sunshine, and that was Taylor wanting to know about lunch. You need to call her back soon."

"Ugh what time is it?"

"10:05 am Tess. And what time does the visitation start today?"

"2 pm I think. Well I guess we better get up then."

I handed her the phone saying,"You have to get up Tess, but I could sleep here till 2."

"Whatever you know not to mess with me in the morning." She said as she pushed me if the bed onto the floor.

I landed with an "oomph" and rubbed my butt that cushioned some of my fall.

"Wow someone is extra cranky this morning!" All I got was a hmph from her as she walked into the bathroom to take a shower.

Tessa

"So why did Christian answer your phone this morning? Did you guys have a little snuggle session last night?" Annilese asked with a wink as we sat down at lunch.

"No he just feel asleep watching a movie and I didn't want to wake him up"

An "mmhmm" was all I got from her.

"Hey Taylor called me this morning how did you know Christian even answered?"

"I have my ways. Actually Tay just told me. Why isn't she here yet anyway?"

"I don't know. But we can order for her. She always gets the same thing!"

"Macaroni and Cheese adult portion." We said at the same time and laughed. We were are Macaroni Grill and Tay was kind of a kid at heart. The Mac and Cheese was on the kids menu here. Waiters always looked at her funny when she ordered but she didn't care.

Just then she walked in. Boy was I excited to have lunch with these two.

30 minutes later.....

I take it back! It was a terrible idea. The whole time we've been here I have been interrogated by my two best friends.

"So when will you and Christian finally become a couple?" Asked Taylor.

Those were the kinds if questions I had to deflect for the past half an hour! No matter how many times I told them that Christian and I would never date they didn't believe me...

"For the billionth time, ME AND CHRISTIAN ARE JUST FRIENDS!"

My raised voice attracted some unwanted attention from other customers, but I was beyond caring. If you keep ticking me off I just snap. And boy it ain't a pretty sight! Believe it or not that wasn't me reaching my snapping point...that was the final straw before I snapped.

"Okay, okay chill!"Annilese said raising her hands in a surrender gesture.

"Sorry it's just that I don't....I mean even if....I can't date Christian because if we ever broke up I would not be able to cope."

"But if he means this much to you don't isn't worth the risk?" Asked Taylor.

"In case you guys haven't noticed, relationships don't really work out...like ever! Name one person who stayed married and is happy that wasn't a book or a movie couple?"

Their silence was answer enough...that's why I could never date him. I would lose him in the end, and a maybe 3 or 4 year relationship isn't worth a lifetime without Christian.

Tess had been acting weird towards me all day. After lunch with Taylor and Annilese she came to the visitation, but hardly talked to anyone. It was like she was stuck in her own little world. Now we are driving home from the visitation and she still hasn't spoken but a few words to me.

"Hey Tess what's on your mind?"

"Oh a lot if things I guess... I have to do the eulogy tomorrow and I haven't written anything! So I was just going over some stuff in my head."

Wow I forgot about the eulogy. I hope she has enough time to write it tonight.

"Tess I totally forgot! Ok I won't bug you tonight, because you really need to focus."

"Hmm yeah, and you don't ever bug me Christian." She said as she opened her car door after we pulled in.

Knowing Tess she will write one amazing eulogy even though her dad wasn't the best father figure. I have complete faith in her.
