"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, Barry please don't die - please don't be dead - BARRY" I felt for a heartbeat - I couldn't feel one. I pulled out my phone and dialed, with trembling fingers, 911."H-hello - I need an ambulance! My brother! He - he was struck by lightning! CCPD, up the stairs take a left- h-hurry!"
"On our way."
I hung up the phone. Already I could hear distant sirens.
"Hold on, Barry, please!"
In about 5 minutes the paramedics arrived.
"Oh my god," one of them said, seeing Barry and checking his pulse. "Phone the ER tell them we have an incoming critical patient-"
I drew backwards as they hastily drew him up and onto a stretcher, and ran down the stairs. I ran after them, still crying.
"What's going on here?" Officer Thawne asked.
"O-Officer! Could you give me a ride to the E.R.?"
--
Around the corner of the E.R. I saw them unloading Barry and running, as fast as they could inside. "Thanks, officer!" I yelled, opening the car door and running the 50 feet to the E.R.
It was packed - I lost sight of Barry. Then I saw him; going through a door on the right. As fast as I could, I ran after them. When I made it to the hall, there was light coming from the room all the way back, that had the door open.
I ran inside. There was lots of shouting."Barry??"
"You can't be in here-" a nurse pushed me out.
"I'm family!"
"No heartbeat-"
"He's coding-"
"BARRY!" I screamed through tears, and I was pushed out by the nurse.
"We'll let you know when you can see him." Said the nurse as she shut the door and pulled the curtain down.
I felt a buzz in my pocket. Dad was calling.
"H-hello?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Iris! Are you okay?" Asked Dad, talking fast.
"Dad I'm fine but B-"
"He got struck," Dad interrupted, sounding frightened. "I know, Officer Thawne told me. I'm on my way."
Dad got here in about 15 minutes. Barry hadn't come out yet. I was sitting on a small couch in the hall. Dad sat down next to me, he looked terrified. Voices were still shouting from the room.
Minutes passed. Then hours. Neither of us spoke.
After a while the shouting quieted down after an hour or two. "They wouldn't let me in." I said, my voice shaking. "They pushed me out. ."
"Iris, don't worry-"
"I can't lose Barry, Dad, not Barry-" Dad hugged me.
Then one of the doctors came out.
"You're his family?" he asked us.
"Yeah," dad stood up. "He's not. . "
"No, no. We've stabilized him for now. We'll be transporting him to the main hospital wing in a few minutes. I just need you to fill out a few forms." he handed Dad some forms. Dad started marking things in.
