Fangirl moment. Enjoy the story.A slow day at the CCPD, I nod to Eddie across the room and head up the metal stairs to Barry's lab, aking sure no one else is around, I say loudly,
'This - is all of your fault.' He looks up at me, confused, 'I could have taken European folklore to cover my sociology requirement, but no. "Take journalism, Iris, reporters have all the fun!" Guess what, Barry, reporters have none of the fun. Journalism is boring. I'm bored. I blame you.'
Barry hasn't said anything, he just keeps staring at me weirdly.
'What, why are you staring at me like that?'
He shrugs. 'You look really nice.'
'Thanks. . But why don't you look nice?' he looks at me confused again. He forgot.
'This afternoon? Suit and tie?' his face opens up and he shuts his eyes and sighs. 'The university is giving Simon -'
'-Simon Stagg some big award.' Barry finished for me.
'And you agreed-'
'-to explain the science stuff for your article. Its all coming back to me now.' he sighs.
I smirk a little bit, and then sigh myself. 'How fast can you get home and change?'
He thinks for a moment. 'Uh, pretty fast.'
'Hey, Allen,' Eddie comes through the doorway. 'Joe asked me to see where you're at on the evidence from the gun store shooting.'
Barry nods and starts looking through his files.
'Oh, hey, Iris.' Eddie says, pretending to just notice I was there.
'Detective.' I say.
Barry glances up at us. 'Please, guys, just kiss already. I already know, remember?'
Eddie laughs a little. 'Thanks for being so cool about this, Allen. I know it's not easy keeping a secret.'
As Eddie gives me a short, but long, kiss on my lips, I hear Barry mumble something I can't make out.
'Huh, that was fast. .' I say when I meet Barry outside the building.
He laughs a bit and nods, looking down. He opens the door for me and I step inside. Its a large building, packed with people. I see a podium with a microphone and behind it, a table with a glass trophy. Barry and I shuffle through the crowd to get closer to the stage.
The whole room bursts into applause as a man in a black suit with a blue tie steps forward, and accepts the award from the man who held it out for him. He then walks to the podium, and speaks into the microphone. The room falls silent as he speaks.
'I find it quite remarkable,' he begins, 'having once been a timid freshman at Central City University, to be standing before you now, the regents choice man of the year. While I very much appreciate the award, the real honour for me is knowing that my work in organ transference helps give people a second chance at life. Thank you all very much for coming.' another round of applause.
