Seeing Furnin enter, the master scribe looked up from his frustrated quarry and said, " good, furnin, come have a seat we've much to discuss." He motioned to a chair in front of his desk.

Furnin sat down and asked, "what's this about?"

The master scribe replied, " well, we are willing to advance you straight into scribe duties after you complete a task for us...how does that sound to you?"

"Depends on the task and the manner in which it must be accomplished." Furnin replied with indifference

"They told me you might be up to it. I'm not going to lie to you it's a very tedious and annoying task. Many of the higher up and veteran scribes simply refuse to do it. The task is this, there's an error in the Chordan families records it hasn't been updated in years and there seems to be an entire section that's missing. So we need someone to visit the Baroness Chordan's estate." The master scribe finished and seemed to eye Furnin for a reaction

Furnin replied, " it seems simple enough unless there's a problem with the baroness' estate?"

"Yes well...let's just say there's a bit of lore surrounding her estate lately. Or rather a lot of fear. The locals speak of strange 'magic' or lights coming from her mansion atop the hill. Now as scribes we don't usually tend to believe in such, well, ridiculous notions. But we've sent at least two scribes out there and niether have returned. So you can see its a rather dangerous affair but an extremely important one." The master scribe explained

"If it's so dangerous why are you sending me?" Furnin asked, "I mean I'm just a student at the academy."

"Yes but I've heard you have taken some martial arts classes and know how to wield a weapon in your spare time. Also you will be provided with the means to hire an armed escort. I can assure you we have no intention of sending you to an unfortunate fate. I just need a scribe with a backbone to accomplish the bloody task." Frustration sparked in the masters face as his westernly accent started to show.

"I see, well , I will on two conditions, first I want the same opportunity and offer given to a classmate of mine her name is Suna lorn. Secondly..." Furnin began demanding

"That daughter of a farmer? She does have a knack for noticing patterns but her parents were just common folks she barely pays her tuition." The master scribe scoffed

"She works harder than anyone else and in a few ways she's smarter than me. She deserves every opportunity as much as everybody else." Furnin said with a bit of irritation

The master scribe motioned his hand in an agreeable manner and said, "very well. Your second condition?"

"I want to pick the armed escort myself." Furnin said

"The first condition is doable, even if misguided, the second however is very reasonable and understandable." The master scribe said

"We shall discuss the details further tomorrow. For now return to the academy and finish your day and inform your 'classmate' of her 'opportunity'" the master scribe said with no small amount of cynicism.

Furnin was annoyed but left without stating how ridiculous the masters idiology that one's parents determine ones aptitude in mental capacity.

Since how Furnin had already completed his daily duties and classes at the academy he thought he would surprise Suna after her last class. So he waited by where she usually began trekking towards a local housing area for academy students, the girls section.

Furnin's eyes met hers as she walked towards him. Her vibrant short layered black hair turned to one side. Her green eyes that almost seemed to glow in certain lights. And her somewhat general tinyness about her seemed to be what Furnin found so alluring about his classmate. Although their relationship between each other only stayed on as a school friends basis, Furnin couldn't deny to himself he had feelings for Suna

Suna said as her face lit up seeing Furnin, "hey! What's up, why are you waiting here? It's not for me is it?"

Furnin replied with a smirk, " no not at all I'm simply waiting here for no general purpose at all."

She replied after laughing ," you and I both know you don't do anything without a purpose in mind."

Furnin sighed then replied, "true, you're right I am waiting up for you, I have something to tell you."

"Oh? What is it that is important enough to keep me from heading straight home to get changed to head to my part time job?" She said curiously

"Well...I've been offered a task that would advance me straight into a full pledged scribe. And I went and included you in both the task and the offer." Furnin said with indifference

"Wait, what? That makes no sense unless the task is pretty serious. And they didn't offer me the same deal originally did they? You went out of your way again didn't you?" She looked away then said, "so what is it we are doing anyhow?"

"Apparently straightening up an error in the councils records regarding a baroness Chordan and her family tree. It's apparantly also a major drag and none of the scribes will do it." Furnin explained

"I should punch you, but since how I'm grateful for the opportunity that you are giving me since no one else will I wont. Figures it would be a task no one else would want so tell me the details while you walk me home." She replied while avoiding eye contact.

"Okay. I'm glad your not too upset that I included you in this." Furnin replied

"It's not you I'm upset with just everyone else treating me different and making it hard to advance just because, A I'm a girl and, B my parents were farmers," she sighs then turns and hugs furnin then releases him and says, "thanks I really appreciate everything you have done for me. And this is a very good opportunity, if not a bit strange, but I'm sure they have their reasons for this kind of task and situation."

They walked to her home and Furnin explained the details and his own ideals as to the master scribes hidden motives behind asking him to do this strange task with such a high reward.
