Furnin insists on heading in first to access the situation ahead of them. And after much debate they all agree to let him do just that.
The other four wait beside the beginning of a path through the heavy forest. The path seems to lead towards a small mountain in the distance. Too far to fully make out through the trees but close enough to see its mountain like features.
Furnin approaches stealthily along the path, hoping he doesn't get spotted by any possible goblin patrols.
Goblins aren't notoriously intelligent, but they've learned to copy the most basic of human military constructs such as placing sentries, and forming patrols. Sadly this also includes raiding villages, and bloodlust.
Furnin spots a patrol heading his way, 3 of them. He knows if he is to gain any information about the goblins he has to get past the patrol.
He waits behind a tree until they get close, on account of one of them has a bow.
He charges from behind his tree catching the patrol by surprise taking one of the goblins sheathed knives.
Before the goblins can react he takes the knife and slices the goblin wielding a mace across the eyes blinding him. He then spins around and quickly stabs the goblin he took the knife from in the chest right where the goblin's armor didn't protect repeatedly in quick succession.
In only a matter of seconds Furnin turns to the goblin with the bow whom is scrambling, trying to grab a hold of the horn strapped to a string around his neck in a state of panic. Furnin brings the knife and imbeds it through the goblin's pale yellow-green skin and into the goblin's skull.
In a matter of a few minutes the patrol was taken out. Furnin proceeds to the yelling out in agony goblin whom he'd simply blinded, reaches down and with a quick snapping yank breaks the goblin's neck.
Furnin takes the goblin horn and puts it around his neck, seeing how blowing the horn could prove useful in the upcoming attack on the goblin's cave.
Furnin decides to move the bodies off of the path just in case and hides them behind some trees and in a bush. After throwing some fallen branches and leaves over the bodies Furnin continues sneaking down the path.
Furnin reaches the end of of the path and hides behind a tree at the edge of the path right before the deforested clearing that the dirt path led to.
Furnin begins studying the area, he notices several wooden watchtowers with goblins with bows in them.
Multiple patrols are patrolling the area around the cave entrance and Furnin can't help but be impressed by the intelligence behind the planning of these goblins defending their cave.
Furnin decides to head back to the others after deliberating that he's gained enough valuable knowledge to successfully stage an attack on the goblin cave.
About halfway back along the path Furnin hears a goblin horn sound off towards the others.
'that's not good' Furnin's thought rings through his head instinctively.
Quickly planning out a long string of possibilities Furnin grabs the horn strapped around his neck and blows it.
Furnin says aloud, "that way if something happens to me they'll just think I was the one who blew the horn. "
Furnin prepares to face the horde of goblins that without a doubt is on its way. From what Furnin could determine the cave seemed large enough to uncomfortably house at least 50 goblins.
Furnin thinks aloud, "I hope the others are ok. "
Meanwhile back with the others, a few slain goblins lay dead around the party of 4.
Dorfam cleans his blade of goblin blood and says, "bloody filth, " as he spits at one of the corpses.
Fuea asks, "anyone hurt? "
Julno who is shaking slightly and has a few cuts and scrapes says, "a few scrapes and probably some bruises but I'm alright. "
Suna exclaims out in pain and Fuea runs over to her. An arrow sticking out of her shoulder.
Dorfam says, "well, looks like our plan of attack just got rushed. "
Suna says as Fuea braces her up against a tree, "I'm sorry... If I'd have been faster on the draw maybe that goblin wouldn't have blown the horn. "
Dorfam says, "don't worry about it. That goblin scouting party caught all of us off guard. "
Suna grimaces as Fuea yanks out the goblin arrow from her shoulder. At this moment they hear the horn Furnin blows.
Fuea says as she looks behind her towards the path, "that came from along the path Furnin took. "
Suna says, "oh no, I hope he's OK. "
Dorfam says, "heh, I've fought alongside him only a few times but I can almost guarantee he won't get himself killed. "
Suna looks only slightly reassured by Dorfam's words. Dorfam then says, " alright, since Suna is injured, you two stay here with her. I'll go back up Furnin who no doubt is facing the horde by himself. And there's no way I'd miss out on a glorious fight. "
Fuea says, " excuse me? Like hell you'd go anywhere without me!"
Dorfam chuckles and says, "woman after my own heart. "
Julno says, "like hell, I'm not staying behind, those goblin bastards will pay for everything they've done!"
Dorfam says, "stay here with Suna, the situation demands it, and I don't think you're quite ready for a battlefield just yet my boy. "
Julno throws the sword Furnin gave him down into the ground exclaiming, "damn it! "
Suna says, "sorry." as Dorfam and Fuea head over and down the path to aid Furnin.
Furnin faces the horde of goblins heading his way. He prepares to face the onslaught of 40 or more goblins. But Furnin can't help but remember one of master Durna's training regiments. Where he and several other recruits sparred 9 to 1, he even remembered Durna taking note on his particular focus and care for non lethal blows after taking down the others.
"that seems like it was ages ago. " Furnin whispers aloud as silhouettes of charging goblins begin to come into Furnin's view.
