A couple hours after their awkward moment, Sutton makes a decision. She had been thinking about Liam and Jon. Liam, her crush, and Jon, her new best friend... or new crush?
Sutton's confusion kept her cooped in her room, drawing hearts on her white board, attempting drafts to Jon to explain over text - but of course she realized that would be extremely rude.
She finally decided, walking out of her room and stepping into the hallway. Her red painted toes wiggled nervously in the carpet. Sutton took a deep breath and brought up courage to head in the direction of the game room.
"Sutton?" Cordelia's voice rang up the stairway, making Sutton jump in fright.
"Yeah?"
"Maggie is going on vacation for a few weeks and Petunia is heading out to buy groceries. I'll be across the street at a lunch with my boss, okay?" Cordelia said.
"Okay," Sutton finally got control of her breathing from her jump-scare. She heard the door slam shut, the sound reverberating throughout the house.
Sutton reached for the door knob of the game room, but it turned before she could grasp it. Jon stood in the doorway in front of her.
"You're bad at sneaking up on me," he laughed but stopped when he saw Sutton's face. "I just- I heard you speaking to Cordelia."
Sutton looked at him, surprised at his light tone.
"I was just about to eat a snack, wanna join me?" Jon attempted to keep the conversation going.
"Petunia's not here," Sutton said dumbly.
Jon laughed as he linked his arm in Sutton's, just as if the whole morning hadn't happened.
Once in the kitchen, Jon got out fruit punch and celery from the fridge. In just a few minutes, Jon placed a plate and cup in front of Sutton.
"How'd you know I like peanut butter on my celery?" Sutton looked at Jon questioningly.
"Because I do."
They ate in silence. The crunch of celery and the slurp of fruit punch echoing in the empty kitchen. Afterwards, Sutton put their dirty dishes in the sink.
"Wanna go play the Wii?" Sutton attempted Jon's light tone.
"Sure," Jon followed her back up toward the stairs.
Jon stepped off the last step, grabbing Sutton's elbow so that she was facing him.
They stood inches from each other in the middle of the hallway.
"Jon," Sutton started, about to explain that she was going to give him a chance.
"No, Sutton, I'm not taking no for an answer," Jon said, expecting Sutton to reject him again.
"No, Jon-"
"Sutton, please," Jon cut her off again. "Can't you just give us a cha-"
It was Sutton's turn to cut him off, but she didn't cut him off by speaking - she didn't have to.
Their lips met as Sutton stood on tiptoe. Jon took Sutton's hands into his own. Sutton peeked at Jon, his eyes closed with pleasure. She shut her lids, gaining the courage to move her lips. The couple's lips worked in sync, but never going as far as entering. But it was just as intimate for the both of them.
Sutton was the first to break away from her first kiss. Jon kept his hands intertwined with Sutton's, refusing to let her go. They smiled at each other, having no reason to speak about their status because the kiss had said it all.
Jon lead Sutton into the game room, ready to spend their first hours as a couple playing video games.
A/N: Okay, so this whole chapter wasn't originally planned but... hey, I wrote it. Sorry if this was not as long as you would have liked it to be, this isn't supposed to be a romance book.
