*4 days later* CRISTINA POV
"Did I do something wrong?" Derek said from behind me.
"Are you talking to me?" I turned around and had my eyes follow him as he caught up to me. He nodded. "She doesn't want to get you involved. She doesn't want you to leave her, but she also doesn't want to hurt you or herself. Do you really want to know what's going on?"
"What doesn't she want me to get involved in? Yeah I want to know what's going on!" I sighed and remembered that I told Meredith that if he asked me I would tell him.
"On Monday, Ellis Grey, Mer's mom, left the oven on and nearly killed both herself and Mer and they had to take both of them to the hospital immediately. Meredith is blaming herself for not seeing it." I didn't tell him what because I wanted to see if he would ask.
"See what?" His McDreamy eyes grew sadder as I told the story.
"Not seeing that her mother has alzheimer's. She's blaming herself when it's not herself, but that's how me and Mer are. We blame ourselves and do stupid things because we're all messed up inside. You can tell her I told you as long as you don't run, she'll be happy you know and that you didn't run. Oh and a few days before that, her mom told her she never wanted her so be careful when you're talking about her mom. She might get mad at first." I patted Derek on the shoulder and walked away.
Meredith POV
"Meredith! Meredith!" I heard Derek voice yelling from down the hall. It was all shaky like something bad happened. I decided to turn around because what did I have to lose.
"Yeah, what?" He stopped right in front of me and then hugged me. What was going on, does he know? "You know. Okay, it's fine if you can't handle it. I'm fine, anyway." I tried to walk away, but he stopped me.
"Whatever terrible thing happened to you, I am so so sorry, I will not leave you though! Let me love you and take care of you please!" I calmed down a little, but I just couldn't get myself to love him.
"I- I can't trust you, I'm sorry." I started to walk away, as I walked away Derek yelled,
"What happened to you Meredith? Why can't you trust me?" I turned around and looked at him. Then shook my head and walked away.
