"You two alright?"
Alarice, Lucy and Tumnus were walking arm-in-arm through the snow.
Alarice smiled at Tumnus concern for her and Lucy. "We're alright, Mr. Tumnus."
Alarice and Lucy saw Tumnus' house and abruptly stopped walking as Tumnus continued on. The two girls turned to each other and grinned happily.
Tumnus turned to them. "Here we are. Come along you two." he urged.
Lucy grabbed Alarice's hand and dragged her inside Tumnus' house. When the two girls were already inside, Tumnus looked around warily and then followed them inside.
Alarice and Lucy looked around the house as they placed the packages they were holding on the floor, while Tumnus puts down his umbrella and shook the snow off his feet. The two girls saw a picture nearby and looked at it as Tumnus turned to them.
"Oh that, that is my father."
Lucy smiled as she took the picture to look closely at it. "He has a nice face. He looks a lot like you." she said as Alarice looked at Tumnus.
"No. I'm not very much like him at all, really." Tumnus said sadly.
"I never knew my father." Alarice said and looked down, not before noticing Lucy's confused look. "The professor isn't my real father. He adopted me."
Lucy looked down sadly. "Oh, I'm sorry."
Alarice smiled softly at her. "It's quite alright, Lucy. Well, I'm not complaining. I'm thankful that the professor found me and took care of me with Mrs. Macready. I couldn't ask for more." she said and gently ruffled Lucy's hair, while Tumnus stared at her in wonder.
"My father's fighting in the war." Lucy said softly as she placed the picture back on the table.
Tumnus looked at Lucy, surprised. "My father went away to war too, but that was a very long time ago before this dreadful winter." he explained.
Alarice frowned. "Winter's not all bad."
Lucy nodded in agreement. "There's ice skating and snowball fights. Oh! And Christmas!" she added happily.
Tumnus shakes his head. "Not here. No, we haven't had Christmas for a hundred years here." he told the two girls.
Alarice's eyes widen. "What? No Christmas for a hundred years?" she asked in confusion.
