I sucked in a deep breath and stared at the door in front of me.

379.

I checked the piece of paper in my hands, making sure I was in the right door. Yeah, I got it right.

I gathered all my strength, then pushed the doorbell. My heart was beating like crazy and my hands were freezing despite the scorching heat of summer.

The door opened. I held my breath, expecting to see the face of the person I was looking for, but...

"You got to be kidding me," Louis uttered in surprise, his reddish eyes studying me with that grin on his face.

I tried to open my mouth but I was too stunned to talk. Alex already told me to expect the worse but I wasn't expecting to see this man.

"What are you doing here?" he asked in a very cocky manner, leaning against the door.

"I'm here to see Harry," I managed to say, my eyes throwing a quick glance inside the penthouse. Holy hell, it looked damn luxurious. Does Harry own this penthouse? Maybe Louis?

Louis flashed an evil smirk when he caught me checking the house out. He swung the door wide open. "Do you fancy a tour?"

"No, thank you," I replied sharply. "I just need to see Harry."

He rolled his eyes. "I figured. Sorry to burst your precious bubble but he's not here."

"Where is he then?"

He shrugged and stared at his fingernails. "Dunno. Probably slept in the house of a girl he just fucked."

I bit my cheek. Just imagining him in someone else's bed was enough to hurt me.

Louis snickered after seeing my face. "I'm just fucking with you, sugar," he chuckled sarcastically. "Harry's at work."

"What time will he return?"

"Depends. His job can be too demanding sometimes. Why don't you just pay him a visit? I'm sure he'll love it," he suggested.

Why am I feeling that something seems off with this?

But I had no other choice. I didn't know anyone else in this city and I was just really desperate to see Harry.

"Where can I find him?" I finally asked.

He smiled grimly. "Wait here, I'll write the address down," he said, then slammed the door close.

I breathed deeply, rubbing my sweating palms against my pants. After a few minutes, the door opened again.

"Here," Louis told me as he gave me a piece of paper. "It's a fifteen-minute drive from here, I think."

I stared at the paper. "Is this a hotel?"

"Yep. Make sure you knock on the right door."

I gave him a puzzled look. "He works in a hotel?"

"You'll find out soon," he smirked. "Best of luck, Jade," he grinned before closing the door.

Something wasn't right. Everything was too strange for me.

I walked away and headed to the elevator, ignoring the shout of my gut. I had to finish this, I would not leave this damn city without talking to Harry.

I sprinted out of the elevator as soon as it opened. I hailed a cab and I was lucky to find an empty one right away. I gave the address to the driver and we drove off.

My eyes were fixed on the busy streets of Manhattan while my mind was all over the place. I didn't know what to expect. First of all, Harry told me that he works as a mechanic and owns a small automotive shop. But Louis sent me to a hotel and told me that it's where Harry works.
