         CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Rain. It seemed like the sky was crying just like Jack was crying out in his heart. He lay on the bed holding the ID. Mike and Jack decided to go to sleep early to wake up earlier the next day. Mike was sleeping, snoring softly. Jack couldn't sleep. He just couldn't. He listened to the rain thump on the roof and he was surprised it didn't start leaking anywhere.

Jack took another look at the ID. Collin wasn't a third child born to Jack's relief. He was actually the only son. His wife, Monica died a week after the birth of Collin. Collin. Last time Jack saw him he was twelve. Collin was a thoughtful son and he looked at everything in a positive way. Not like Jack. Jack became a Christian later than the rest of his family, right before his marriage. He still sometimes didn't understand the ways of the Lord. Collin was a very truthful Christian. He was full of inspiration, thoughts that made the world a better place to live in. He always found the good in every situation and smiled when it was tough. If anything happened that would upset Jack, Collin would say, "Hey Dad, maybe God’s trying to say something. Just pray, ok?" Prayer. Jack never really understood it fully. He prayed all the time but sometimes he would get on his knees and let God know what he thought of Him for taking away everyone he loved. Everyone: Monica, Collin and even himself. After Collin's death Jack became a frowning person. Only the "perdido" siblings or Nedit or Miya could bring a smile to his face. Jack sighed. If only.....if only Collin was alive, he would support Jack in any way. But he had no one now. Wait. He had God. Jack got off the bed and fell on his knees.

"Lord? I come before You. I need You right now. Please support and comfort me like Collin would have once done. Please help me forgive Monica and Collin for leaving me. God, please. I need You right now. Give me strength. In Jesus' name. Amen."

Jack stayed on his knees in silence and dropped his head in his hands. When he went back to bed he didn't feel lonely anymore. He felt someone next to him. Jack's heart was filled with peace. He smiled. God was here. He has heard my prayer. Before falling into deep sleep, he thought of how great it would be to see the families again. He wanted to see Katherine. He wondered if she ever forgave him.

His thoughts wandered off as he closed his heavy eyes.
