Four Words-Poem

Four simple words,
yet they mean so much
I had to say them tonight,
seal everything with a touch

I've spent so much with you
We've been through it all
From the bright suns and rainbows
to standing in the rainfall

I pushed you to the top
And you pulled me up after
There's really nothing we'd do
If we just lost each other

To think this is the day,
After all we've been through,
I guessed I'd make it official
And say it to you.

Tonight it'll end
the child and teenage years
Tonight we'll be happy
after all of those tears

And if you say no,
I guess I'll understand.
Even though I'll frown,
I'll still take you by the hand

I'll tell you it's okay
if you need some more time
I'll just wait here for you
Until the church bells chime

But if you say yes
I'll hug you and smile
I'll hear the people cheering
and I'll jump up a mile

They'll never separate us then
from then till forever.
It'll just be you and me
Happily ever after

And then the time came
and I got down on one knee.
Everyone was watching with gasps,
you were shocked as can be

So I've knelt here and talked
our love, they all could see.
There's only four words left:
Will you marry me?
