Wide Open(Clato Story)-Editing

Chapter 17

As we are walking deeper in the woods,I get a little bit suspicious about this situation.Everything seem very simple.A fire in the woods equals a tribute.But who would be such stupid to make a fire as big as this one in the middle of the day?Who would risk this much just to make a fire?I think this is a trap ,but I already told Cato and he didn't care.What am I supposed to do?I'm not leaving the group,they will think I am scared and I don't want to show that.Never.

I should stay in the back of the group and tell Cato to let Marvel lead,better him than us.I don't want to risk it.

'Cato'I whisper'We should let Marvel in the front.If something happens he will be the first shot.'

'Seriously'he says'What can even happen?Besides Thresh,no one can attack us.I don't think Fire Girl stays this close.'

'I'm not thinking about tributes.Remember?In previous Games ,the Gamemakers used to get different obstacles in the Arena.To make survival harder.'I insist.

'Fine,but stay close.We are still a team,remember?We'll kill him eventually,but until that,we need to stay together.'

'Great than.'

We let Marvel in lead.When we past an animal trap,Marvel tells us to remain here because he heard something in the distance.We let him go ,disappear into the mass of trees.Bored,I search in my backpack for some food.All I find is a half full water bottle and an apple.Right when I'm done,Marvel shows up to tell us that there is no one around,so we decide to go back to camp.On our way back,we're scared by the sound of an explosion as loud and as near as possible.Why are we scared?Because it is coming from our camp.

We run as fast as we can to find all of our supplies gone in ashes  and Volt just standing there...doing nothing.I then notice how angry Cato is as he starts looking at him.I don't  need to think twice  and I already know that he is gonna kill him.He angrily goes to him and breaks his neck on the spot.The cannon goes off and then we try,at least I do ,to calm Cato.

Marvel and I sit around the fire alone.Cato is somewhere near the tree line looking away.He's not missing anything.We don t have any dinner tonight.After he killed Volt we looked to see if food survived and we luckily found some.But we aren't eating it tonight.I hope the sponsors will take care of our bad time.

We go to sleep hungry,but that is not the only thing that keeps me awake.I need to know who did this...but..The only way someone could have done that and not get killed is if he or she acted from a big distance...Arrows!Only an arrow could have got in  there.Somebody is going to die and her name is Katniss Everdeen.

In the morning,after a long night in which I couldn't sleep,we prepare ourselves for some hunting.We take our packs and weapons before leaving for the woods.Today is a sunny day surprisingly.Birds are singing and everything seems too quiet for the Games.

'Maybe today is our lucky day'Marvel laughs.

'What are you talking about?There is no way in hell that we will find her today!'Cato says.

'I agree...It's too sunny for her to show up!'I laugh.It's normal for as to joke.In this kind of situations,a little bit of humor can make you feel better.It takes some stress away...Calms you down,gives you the silence you need to think..

A moment of silence,this is all we need before we hear screams.A little girl's screams.

'There must be the girl from 11.'Cato says.

'The trap!'I shout.'The trap Marvel put two days ago.When we were in camp!'

'Bastard!This is maybe why he wanted to go by himself,to get the hunt!'

'Let  him be,let's go!He'll probably kill her and then come to camp!'

'You're right!Come on!'

We start moving to our camp when we hear a the cannon.

'She's dead!'Cato says as he pushes me forward.I have short legs and I can't keep up with him that well so he likes to do this all the time.When we reached our camp a second cannon came.

'There is something wrong!'I say.

'Who died?'

'Maybe Peeta?Or did Tresh found Fire Girl?'

'That can be possible,but what if Tresh found Marvel after he killed the girl from his district?I saw him being a little protective over her.'

'From the moment they got in this arena,he completely forgot about her.I doubt it.'

'If Marvel isn't coming,he's dead.That's a thing we can be sure about.Now let's eat,I'm starving!'Cato laughs. 

We search through our backpacks and we decide to eat what's in them.We'll hunt tomorrow for meat.I'm already tired of biscuits and soup  and we only have one apple left.We lay on the grass under the Cornucopia and on a weapon box we put two packs of biscuits,a can of soup and the apple cut in a half.As we eat the anthem starts playing and we see who got killed today.Unexpected,we see the picture of the tall District 1 boy.Who could have killed him?

'And he's gone...'I whisper.

The anthem goes on and the image of Volt pops up,and then the  girl's from 11.

'Who could have killed Marvel?'I told Cato.

'I don't know.It can be anyone.'

'Who's left?It must be some of them...There is no way the little girl could have done it.'

'Well...us,Fire Girl,Peeta and Thresh..'

'No...There is this girl...From District 5 ,I think.The one with the red hair....she could have done it.'

'She just runs...She's too afraid of us..No way..'

'You're right...The fact is that he's dead.It's only us now...'

'Clove?'Cato faces me.He looks deep in my eyes like he tries to see inside my soul...Like he 's trying to read my mind.

'Yes?'I manage to speak.

'If it comes between you and me in the final two...Promise me...Fair fight.'

'Of course...I won't let myself crushed by you.'I say.

'That means fist fight..'

'That is in your advantage...it is not fair.'I insist.

'Ok...How about knifes only?I'm not great at it,but i'm bigger...You're smaller but better at it.It is that fair?'He smirks down at me.

'Fair enough....'I smile.

Cato decides to watch tonight,so he lets me sleep in his tent.To be honest it's bigger and nicer than mine.After all the events of today,I fall asleep in  seconds forgetting about the Games for the night.
