Kristen parked her bike on the grassy front lawn of Massie's estate. She took off her helmet and finger-combed her hair to make sure she didn't mess up her long waves. Kristen walked to the front door and rang the doorbell twice. Kendra, Massie's mother, swung open the door with a huge smile on her face.
"Welcome, Kristen! So glad you made it!" Kendra exclaimed. Kristen looked at her forehead and saw no wrinkles, whatsoever. Must be a new injection of Botox.
"Thanks, Kendra," Kristen said politely. She walked into the foyer and instantly liked the scent of the apple candle that was burning.
"They're right in the kitchen," Kendra ordered. Kristen walked to the kitchen where all her friends were chatting and laughing.
"Kristen!" Massie screamed and hugged her best friend.
"Hey, guys," Kristen laughed.
"We're planning the Haunted House," Alicia clapped and chewed on some trail mix. All over the counter were notes and other papers.
"Here's our blue print," Dylan handed Kristen a form while she chewed a pumpkin muffin. Kristen observed the plan while Massie talked about it.
"We're gonna have Dylan's Candy Bar spread all over the estate with the Haunted House as the main attraction. And we're gonna put fire-pits all over the Lyons part of the estate and blast the music over there," Massie explained with a devious smile.
"What if they complain?" Kristen asked.
"They can't. It's our estate and they live on OUR property. So if they want, they can just move out," Massie growled.
"True," Kristen stated. All of a sudden, a phone vibrated repeatedly.
"It's Brent!" Massie squealed. The girls rushed to her side and waited for her to answer. Massie quickly fixed her hair and eyelashes.
"Put it on speaker," Dylan whispered. Massie answered and put it on speaker.
"Hey, Massie," Brent bellowed.
"Hey, Brent," Massie chirped. "I was just here with the girls planning the Haunted House."
"Hey!" The Pretty Committee shouted.
"Cool. My mom has been stacking a lot of the candy for your event. How many people are coming?" Brent questioned.
"The whole city! Everyone loves coming to my house," Massie stated and flipped her hair.
"And by the way, Claire keeps texting me. I had like fifty new messages just from her," Brent said.
"Ugh. She's such a wannabe. Block her. She's a total freak show," Massie ordered.
"Will do, boss," Brent joked.
"I think we've got it all down," Massie declared. "I got a bunch of top decorators helping out with the event. And we're gonna have Cirque du Soleil to perform! This will be the biggest event in ALL of Westchester."
"This sounds really cool. Can't wait. I gotta go though. Talk to you later," Brent assured.
"Ok, bye," Massie replied and hung up.
"I wish I had someone like him," Alicia said dreamily.
"Me too," Kristen sighed and fanned her cheeks.
"Why did he have to go so quickly?" Massie asked herself.
"His mom probably needs help with the business or something," Dylan answered.
"Claire's also been in contact with Brent," Massie sighed.
"But he said that he's ignoring her," Dylan suggested.
"Unless he was lying," Massie mumbled.
"Come on, Mass. No guy would ever do that to you," Kristen offered.
"I'm already stressed out enough! I'm gonna break out soon! Maybe that's Claire's plan," Massie assumed. There was a moment of silence until Alicia spoke.
"Wanna go shopping tomorrow? Ralph and Kate Spade just got restocked," Alicia whined. She showed them her phone with a notification on the screen. Alicia absolutely has to know every single detail about stores so she knows what's the best time to shop.
"As much as I love to, we have a new mission on our hands. We have to stop Claire and Brent from interacting with each other," Massie stated.
"Maybe you're overreacting?" Dylan questioned.
"I have to go shopping, Massie!" Alicia whined.
"Guys, if you were in this situation, you would do the same," Massie said. "I'll send out some information tonight about what we should do about this." The girls nodded.
"Let's get back to business, guys," Massie declared. They worked on the event planning for the next two hours.
"Guys, I have to go. My mom will kill me if I'm late," Kristen stated.
"Aww, bye Kris," Dylan moped and hugged her. Massie and Alicia did the same. Kristen left the mansion and picked up her bike. She was about to put on the helmet when she heard talking.
"It's kind of stupid. We should, like, show up and embarrass her," Claire muttered.
"That would be so funny! We should totally sabotage the event," Layne laughed loudly. Kristen dropped her bike quietly and tiptoed silently towards them. Claire and Layne were sitting on the front steps, drinking hot beverages.
Kristen silently crouched in the bushes on the side of the guesthouse and listened to the conversation.
"What should we do?" Layne asked.
"I don't know. You're the genius!" Claire exclaimed. Kristen accidentally moved which caused a cracking noise. Luckily, they didn't hear it.
"Ok. Um. When a group of people enter the Haunted House, we should sneak in and lock all the windows and doors. So they will be scared to death and maybe even sue the Blocks!" Layne declared.
"That's not bad. It's totally humiliating," Claire laughed. "Let's check on the pumpkin seeds."
"Okay," Layne agreed. They both went back into the guesthouse, leaving Kristen all alone. Kristen snuck out of her spot in the bushes and sprinted to her bike. The helmet was connected to the handles while Kristen biked down the driveway. While she was riding, Kristen took the helmet and attached it on her head.
As soon as Kristen got home, she called Massie.
"Pick up the phone, Mass," Kristen mumbled as she waited for Massie to pick up the phone. Kristen hung up after two tries, remembering not to stress her out.
Massie can not be stressed out or she will freak, Kristen thought. She decided to keep this information to herself. Maybe she could catch the freaky duo in the act.
