The train ride to their stop took almost an hour, and then they missed it, jumping off almost ten minutes late. Tris blamed it on Ry's nonstop talking once they reached the city.
The walk to the old Dautless headquarters didn't take as long as Tris had thought it would. Ry had the bright idea of using the swearer as a short cut.
They were almost out when Ry stopped Tris with a hand on her elbow. "I'm not going up with you. I'll scout out downtown and maybe make a few friends."
"But-"
"Tracy, whoever your meeting with won't know me. They won't trust me. Tell them you have a friend running around the city. I'll keep and eye on you, and meet you back down here in five hours with the location of the orphanage and Evelyn's base." Ry's voice was confident as he explained his plan.
"But you don't know the city, Ry. You might get lost, and what if your found..."
"I won't be." He insisted. "Now, any last words of wisdom?"
"Yeah, watch out for Tobias." Something about the way Tris said the name put Ry on edge.
"Why? Who is he?"
"Evelyn's son. Sometimes called Four. The greatest fighter Dauntless ever knew." Ry could have sworn he saw fear in her eyes, but the was impossible. Tracy never got scared. It was probably just the weak light coming in from the holes in the manhole cover above them.
Tris let out a shaky breath, causing Ry to put an arm around her. "Five hours. Promise."

I will not make these notes often, but I feel I must remind all you dear readers that whenever someone says, "promise", you have to expect stuff to hit the fan real soon. This instance is no different, and I hole heartily think that if Ry had stuck by Tris and went into Dauntless with her, this story would be very very boring.

Tris hated the thought of leaving Ry alone down there, but she didn't know how Uriah would react to her showing up on his door step, let alone her and a complete stranger from outside the fricken wall!
Tris muttered a few choice words about her birth place as she walked through the dim stone hallways of Dauntless, keeping her head down and avoiding the more popular tunnels in favor of the less watched, lower paths. The one she was currently heading down had few cameras and a lot of good sized blind spots. Tris stuck to most but avoided enough so it wouldn't look suspicious to any prying eyes watching her through the lenses.
Familiar but strange. That was the first thought in her head when she reached Christina's hall.
"Here goes nothing." The words were muttered as her hand, almost as if it had a will of it's own, reached up and knocked on the plain black door.
"One minute, I'll be right there." The words that carried through the door were not Christina's. The voice was deep, masculine, with a teasing edge.
The door flew open just as Tris thought RUN!
"Can I help you?" His voice questioning and guarded.
Thank God! He didn't recognize her.
"Yes, is Christina here?" Tris switched up her voice, making it pitched a bit lower.
"No, what did she do?"
"Nothing."
"Then why does Her Honor what Christina?" His voice was definitely guarded now, and suspicious.
I look like Factionless? Shitingnutsoncracker
"She did not deem it necessary to tell me." Tris paniced. "Now if you are quite done impeding Evelyn's business, please pass along my message to Christina.  She is needed by Amity." Tris keep her voice firm.
"That it?"
"Yes. Have a good day." Tris turned on her heel to leave but he grabbed her arm.
"Do I know you?"
"Probably. I grew up in Dauntless."
Tris then walked away as fast as she could without it look suspicious.
That as it turns out, that was unnecessary as she literally slammed into Christina as she went around the corner of the hall.
"Ow! Watch where your.......TR-" Tris smacked her hand over Christina's mouth before the last word could escape, in the process though she partly threw her body over Christina's on the floor.
"If you say that name we're both dead. Yeah?" Christina nodded. "Good, now when I lower my hand you are not going to scream." Tris loosened her hold on Christina just a bit and when nothing happened she removed her hand completely.
Tris pushed herself off her old friend and stood, holding out a hand to help Christina up as well. Christina's feet are barely flat on the floor before her arms were clamped around Tris. Tris returned the hug without a second thought. Both it seemed were holding onto the other as if they were the last life preserver. Christina pulled away first.
"Is it really you?" Tris could only nod. "But....everyone thought...your suppose to dead." Tris shook her head.
"I left the wall. Not the world." Tris managed a small laugh.
Christina couldn't move, her best friend wasn't dead. "Oh my god, does Tobias know? And what about Caleb? They've both been in this really deep depression and....Tris what's wrong?"
Tris's face had fallen, her lips pressed together into a tight line. "Is there somewhere we can go? Not back to your apartment." Tris said quickly. "I don't want Uriah to know. As few people as possible...please?"
After a moment of hesitation Christina agreed with a nod. "Follow."
Tris didnt think twice.
Christina followed her friend through stone hallways, trying not to lost is nostalgia. No matter the terms of her departure, her time in Dautless had given her some of her better memories. Tris noticed that Christina kept her head down and away from the camera's line of sight, Tris didn't know what had happened in her city in the last few years, but it had turned her normally fun loving, carefree friend into a scared solider.
