There were times I wished I didn't know anything about love or even just about liking someone. I didn't know that this was how complicated it could be.
Stephen and I were both sitting on a bench at the park. But it's not the town's park, we went to the next town which was okay for me. I didn't want to be at our park because there were people who knew me there. We were just sitting there, staring at the lake in front of us. I didn't know what I should say to him. This would be just my second time to be with him... alone! So yeah, I couldn't just say, "Hey, what's your favorite food?" We're not that close yet. And then there's a thought that he might be M.
"What happened?" he asked, cutting off my thoughts.
I turned to face him slightly. "Just..." I paused, sighing. "Things are getting complicated because of that M guy."
Just then, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and it was Aaron. How did he get my number?
"Aren't you going to answer that?" Stephen asked.
I just shrugged. My phone continued ringing but I ignored it.
"You know, he might be worried about you."
"He's a jerk and we're not that close even if we're neighbors."
"But he likes you."
My head snapped to him in a fast motion. "How did you..."
He shrugged. "I'm a guy. I can see it clearly."
I sighed. I should've expected that, but... "You can see that? How..." I stopped. I couldn't think the perfect question to ask. If he could see it, did that mean he was watching me?
He smiled at me. "Sam really likes you for a friend. You know what she said to me?"
I think my voice had suddenly disappeared for a moment. So I just shook my head and let him continue.
He chuckled, and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. "I should date you."
My mouth hung open instantly. Sam... Sam said that to Stephen? Oh, my gosh! Sam said that to Stephen.
I stood up, turning my back on him. I could tell that my cheeks were already red. Oh, why Sam had to say that?
"Carter, is something wrong?" I felt his hand on my shoulder which doubled my heartbeat. Anytime... anytime soon, I was surely going to faint. "Carter-"
"I'm okay," I quickly said, cutting him off. I inhaled and exhaled, trying to get everything under control. "I just... There is..." I stuttered. For the love of all the peaches! Why did I have to stutter right now?
"Sorry for saying that. I just want you to know what my sister thought about us. She also said that we will be a great couple. Can you believe that?" he said, chuckling.
I closed my eyes for a moment. When I opened it, I took a step back. Stephen was now in front of me with a worried look plastered on his face.
