Gone

Chapter 20

The doctor walked in the room, with a person I hadn't seen before.  

"Kate, this is your new personal assistant, Joe. He will help you accomplish tasks that may be difficult. He will live with you and your family. He's new at the job, so don't expect to much." 

I looked over at Joe and weakly smiled at him. He smiled back. 

"Hello." Joe said. 

"Hi." I said weakly. 

I could tell we connected instantly. 

"Good news Kate, you can leave the hospital, now if you'd like." the doctor said. 

"Well lets go then!" I said to my family. 

Joe helped me into my wheelchair, and started to push me out of the hospital room, and into the hallways. As I rolled along, I saw a face I never wanted to see again.... I saw Daniel sitting on a hospital bed with a brace on his injured ankle. As we passed by, I heared the doctor tell him he would have a permenant limp. I wonder if he's going to be convicted guilty.

"Welcome home Kate!" my parents say together as we pull into our driveway. 

I waited for Joe to come and get me to help me out of my seat, so I wouldn't collapse. When I was in my wheelchair, I started to roll towards my house, my house, how I have missed it so much! I opened the front door and looked around. Everything was the same as before. I rolled through the kit ch en and in to my old bedroom. I missed my own bed, so much! My eyes start to feel hot, and start to water. No don't cry, I tell my self. Don't cry, don't cry, but its no use. The tears start to spill out of my eyes, and they run down my cheek. Just then, my mom walked in.  

"Kate are you okay?" 

I sniffled a little bit. 

"Yeah, I'm fine." 

She came behind me and wrapped her arms around me. She hugged me, and I hugged her back.  

"Are you tired Kate?" 

"Yeah" 

"I thought so, go to sleep." 

I rolled over to my bed, and got in it. As I drifted off to sleep, thoughts of Daniel swam through my mind.
