"No way. Evaline please tell me this isn't a joke." I scoot my chair closer to the desk tapping my fingers on the glass surface.
"I swear on my life 'Lette. I mean you already work with the man's brother you have a great shot." I lean back in my chair again.
"What chance? I work with Jon not Andrew and I work at the café. I'm a low grade photographer, I'm not good enough to do that type of work nor am I just going to go poking and prodding."
"You're an amazing photographer! Don't downgrade yourself like that. Look I know that after that last shoot-"
I cut her off. "And I thank you for that but I have to go." I hear new voices downstairs and start picking up my equipment again. "They are here and I have to go record a podcast but I will definitely talk to you later."
"Wait, who's there? Scarlet-" I hang up the phone. Whoops. I push my chair in with my hip and carry what I need into the podcast room dumping the stuff onto my table against a wall to set up everything. Most of the equipment is fairly simple to set up. And I'm almost done by the time I hear the group of voices approach the door and finally come in.
Between all the happy chatter and comradery I'm pretty much ignored while I finish setting up. When I'm done hooking up all the equipment and I'm just booting up my laptop when I hear my name.
"Andrew this is Scarlet our secretary, technician, audio producer, photographer, media specialist, intern, and office mother who is absolutely amazing and does practically everything around here." Jon says gesturing to me.
I look up at the group of people. "Well you're certainly laying it on thick Jon." I suddenly feel awkward now that the attention is on me. I shift in my seat a little bit.
"Well I owe you. Scarlet this is my brother Andrew and you know everyone else." I nod before looking back down at my laptop.
"Nice to meet you." I glance at Jon again. "I have all the equipment set up so whenever you guys want to begin the podcast you can start."
"Okay then." I feel a pair of eyes on me but I don't bother to look up and stay focused on my laptop.
The recording goes well as I sit quietly in my corner drinking my coffee and watching. I have to admit it is one of the best episodes we've recorded in a long time and I struggle to keep from laughing.
By the end of several sessions worth of recordings everyone is in a rather jovial mood after all of the joking around.
"Well that went rather well wouldn't you say lads?" Jon says leaning back in his chair slightly. "Anyone up for a round of drinks?" He looks around, all the guys give a nod or a some sign of agreement.
When Jon looks at me I raise an eyebrow. "It's barely even time for lunch."
"Oh come on Scarlet don't be a downer, it's my brother's last week in town and I'll even pay for your first drink."
I laugh lightly. "Well I was going to say yes anyways, but now you've just sweetened the deal."
I pack up all of my equipment and head back to my office as the guys continue to chat and laugh away. My phone which I had left on my desk begins to vibrate on the black wood desk, a blueish light shining out from under the bright red case. I pick it up and answer the call.
''Hey Evaline, you just can't live without talking to me every hour can you?" I say jokingly balancing the phone between my ear and shoulder as I begin to put things away. Trying to concentrate on putting things away and not dropping my phone.
"Yeah I can't. And do you know what else I can't live without? The fact that you just recorded a podcast with Andrew Hozier-Byrne! How come you didn't tell me!"
I sigh. "Well for one I had to actually record the podcast."
"So? You should have told me! Maybe you can hang out! Get that photography job..."
"Haha you're soooooo funny Evaline. Actually we are all going out for a round right now so in a way you are half right."
